Major Green Line Delays

185995525_2de8dc8c0e_m.jpgHey Green line riders, are you by any chance just getting in to work right now? Yeah, we're sorry to hear that, but there have been major Green line delays since 7 a.m. this morning, when a six-car train stalled and broke down on the inbound track near West Hyattsville. To make matters worse, a second train sent in to push the broken one down the track also lost power, shutting down the tracks entirely between Prince George's Plaza and Fort Totten and forcing us all to make unnecessary references to that horrible episode of Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip when the director has to send in a ferret after a snake under then stage, and then a coyote in after the ferret. We all just finally got to the point where we could put that worthless show out of our minds, and now you go and bring it all back up again. Thanks for nothing, WMATA.

Metro has issued an alert for the Green line and is asking passengers to find alternate routes. Shuttle buses are operating between Prince George's Plaza, West Hyattsville, and Fort Totten Metrorail stations, and trains are running between Georgia Ave-Petworth and Branch Avenue Metrorail stations and from Greenbelt to Prince George's Plaza Metrorail stations. Passengers can exit Green line trains without paying for the time being, due to the major delays.

UPDATE: Normal service has been restored to the Green line as of 12:30 p.m.

The green line AND the orange line. 45 minutes sitting before Rosslyn then we're told we're the "pick up" train. Only we had to get off once we hit Rosslyn. 1 hour, 20 minutes from Cap Hill to Ballston booooo.

Must have been something in the other direction on the Orange too b/c they were there was a huge crowd of folks waiting to get into the metro at Ballston...they were letting so many in at a time.

no one seemed to know this but there are plenty of busses you can take from fort totten to pg plaza and others. I took the R2.

In regard to the delay at Ballston, there is some sort of major hazmat response in front of the NSF building on Wilson Boulevard.

It's days like this that I stand by my thought that all talk of extending various Metro lines should be scrapped, and instead the real focus needs to be on adding 3rd and 4th tracks, and decoupling lines that share tracks. The existing system has fundamental design flaws that will only get worse with age and increased ridership.

Even though I hate sitting in traffic and stopping every block while I take the bus, I'm still glad I no longer have to worry about this kind of shit! And all right by my old stop. You go, Green Line! You go, girl!

Enough with the ragging on Studio 60 already! I'm sorry, okay?

1hr 45min for me! I took the 86 bus to Rhode Island Ave with a bunch of tourists. Amusing.

not sure if it was a cause or effect, but an orange or blue train was parked at l'enfant when i tried to transfer around 830am. the platform and train were scarily overcrowded, and there was a lot of pushing... actually saw a woman shove a blind person's cane out of her way to jam onto the train (which did not move for the 20 minutes i waited before giving up)!

I was on the train that stalled between Foggy Bottom and Rosslyn (around 8:30 this morning). We sat in that tunnel for about half an hour before the train was pushed out. I can't imagine what kind of delay that caused behind us, and the lower Rosslyn platform was a zoo when we off-loaded there.

Damn man, chip on your shoulder much?

stan is clearly not a commuter. days like today, it's not hard for metro riders sympathize with the postal worker attitude of the 90s.

Once again I am reminded of the hell that is the green line and how wonderful the bicycle is....

I was getting onto an orange line train in Ballston just as the crap hit the fan this morning. I remember having to disembark, and then sitting for 20 minutes as they talked about the green line (and mentioned red line delays as well) over the PA while I grumbled about when the hell I was going to get to ride my

I stopped getting metrochecks from work specifically because I wanted to start riding my bike. My drive to do this has been renewed.
