Morning Roundup: Hops on Pop Edition

We've got two words for you, D.C.: beer pops. That's right, beer pops. WTOP, along with a number of other local news outlets, has coverage of an innovation being brought to market by an Alexandria restaurant. The folks at Rustico may not be the first to come up with the idea of ale-on-a-stick, but they're the first purveyors of it we know of in the D.C. area, and we salute them for it. Here's hoping everything works out for them: the story says that the frozen treat has piqued the interest (and maybe ire) of Virginia ABC regulators.
Green Line Post-Mortem: The Post has a full rundown of yesterday's Green Line debacle. We knew that it made for a lot of confused, angry and tardy passengers. We didn't know that Metro piled up four empty trains, one after another, before finally sending in a diesel engine to dislodge the mess.
Child Services Seeks Baby's Mother: A baby boy was left on a doorstep in Southeast about two weeks ago; now the city government is asking for help finding his mother. According to NBC4 the child is in good health, despite apparently being dropped off very shortly after being born. If identified, the mother may face criminal charges.
Briefly Noted: UDC President announces resignation... Southwest to begin offering int'l flights at BWI... Fairfax cab fare increasing $1... Prince William County Board of Supervisors' pay is increasing, too... Baltimore couple steals purse from woman having seizure...
This Day In DCist: One year ago today we reviewed the new album from Shwa and wondered whether it would be better for the zoo to do without its elephants. Two years ago we were struggling to breathe after stuffing ourselves with free Chipotle burritos.

The first thing I see this AM is that half-preg looking ugly AA unitard camel toe chick again. When will this stop??
Well at least you are not getting mooned. I have nightmares about the bug-eyed chick.
Post Express says the VA Booze Patrol has ordered a stop to the frozen beer popcicles.
There has been an overabundance of whiny- socially conservative-bitch postings the last few days regarding the AA ads.
Yes they are soft core porn. Yes Dov Charney has been sued for sexual harassment/discrimination. Yes Charney has probably slept with most/all of the models.
So what? a) don't buy AA merchandise, b)ignore the ad, c) stop whining about it.
There are free speech laws in this country that say the ads are legal. AA's target demographic is the one that reads dcist, and on top of that someone at dcist yesterday said that their parent org. deals with the ads.
So stop bitching about it you free-speech stifling pansies.
Imploring others to "stop bitching" doesn't stifle free speech? Isn't that what free speech is, the right to bitch as loudly and as freely as one so desires?

SNAP!
I wasn't seeing the AA ads, or any others, here at work (thanks security obsessed IT people) until this morning. I don't care one way or the other if they're up but what I'd like to know is in the one with the couple - where are her pants? or a skirt? why is she completely dressed except for the bottom half? And giving someone you're making out with a wedgy doesn't seem like much of a pleasure trip to me.
Just making an observation...
As long as we're beating the AA ads to death yet again--I'm a little mystified that everyone keeps calling the unitard model "half-pregnant." Assuming we're talking about the same picture, she sure doesn't look four-and-a-half months pregnant to me. I mean: what exactly does a four-and-a-half-month pregnant woman look like anyway? They all look different. Unless you mean that she has half the belly of a nine-monther, in which case--no she doesn't. Or you might simply mean that she has an abnormally prominent gut-pouch, in which case--you have a pretty harsh definition of "abnormal." Looks to me like she's just arching her back.
Vor,
It's called a FUPA.
Personally, I like soft-core porn and am sorry that I am missing the ads. But I am missing them.
If you're using Firefox, go get the Adblock Plus add on. That kills all the ads on pretty much all the web. Sorry Gothamist.
"Socially conservative" my ass. It's called "not wanting to get in trouble for looking at an otherwise SFW blog". In other words, our supposed "conservatism" is set by the appropriateness of the workplace, not our own personal tastes. Although, I still think they're hags.
Idiotard.
It's called a FUPA.
No, it's not. These are FUPAs:
fupahunter.blogspot.com
I feel I'm missing out. I hadn't even noticed the ads until yesterday. I just visit DCist for the stories anyway.
Ahem, for those like me who did not know what FUPA stands for and had to look it up; FUPA is an acronoym for Fat Upper Pubic Area.
Sorry to digress to a completely unrelated topic (what's a FUPA, by the way?), but has anyone looked at the DC police crime map on the Web lately? Do they even update that thing, like, ever? I just checked out to see what's been going on near my apartment, and the 13-year-old's murder at 14th & Girard didn't even show up on the map. So, if the MPD can't be bothered to note one of the more high-profile crimes in the city, how can we be sure that other crimes are in fact being accurately recorded?
The online crime map is a great idea, but unfortunately it looks like just another half-assed effort by DC government. And this comes on top of the revelation that last year's crime figures were, um..... miscalculated? Massaged? Fabricated?
Regarding the crime map, maybe the juvenille offendors don't get published...
It's been a long time since sex-ed, but I'm still pretty sure you can't be half-pregnant.
Sorry, Rustico. You're in Virginia and nobody likes you. Even beer pops won't change that. Have some more pizza balls.
Vor:
It atlanta they would call it a booty-do because her stomach hangs out more than her booty-do.
A FUPA is several degrees short of a gunt (male: gick).
Thanks SY for the adblock plus tip.
I appreciate Gothamist's need to fund itself, and previously dealt with all the ads. But I think ads that challenge SFW status should be blockable, and it's nice to have a way to opt-out.
Screening marketing would prevent us from doing this.
Maybe they could market AA on WMATA...
Booty do? BWAHAHAHAHA That made my day, thank you.
@yuck: I always thought it was called a bunt. Well belly=>bunt, gut=>gunt to each their own.
As for that AA uni-tard/body leotard ad, it's nice for once that THE MODEL IS NOT ANOREXIC !!
The sad part is that I can't see the ads at home, only at work, where I feel wierd seeing them.
