About Tonight

>> Fort Reno soldiers on tonight, with Mess Up the Mess, Julie Ocean, and the final ever performance from Three Stars alums The Sentiment, who are calling it quits as a group after tonight. 7:15 p.m.

>> Debuting tonight is "Bomb Shelter," a weekly stand-up showcase featuring five local improv personalities. Why the militaristic name? Because there is no "bombing" here. The comedians promise to stun weapons of mass hilarity, which means no random drunk guy grabbing the mic to tell a bad joke. Already established as the winner and finalist (respectively) of 2007 DC Improv's Funniest Amateur Comedian, Mike Way and John McBride will join Diana Saez (of Rendezvous and the all-female Broad Minded show), veteran Seaton Smith and Pittsburgh transplant Bryson Turner. The free show is from 9 -10:30 p.m. at 18th & Red in Adams Morgan ( 2436 18th Street NW). Drink specials include $4 rail drinks, $3 Blue Moons, $2 Coors Light and $2 off any house wine.

>> Friends of the National Zoo's free Thursday summer concert series, Sunset Serenades, kicks off tonight at the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park – Lion/Tiger Hill with a performance by blues/rock group The Melanie Mason Band. Each concert will also feature up-close animal encounters, and the series is billed as being "family friendly." 6:30 to 8 p.m.

>> Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy, starring Jane Fonda, screens tonight at the Hirshhorn, the final film in the museum’s Summer Camp series. 8 p.m. Free.
