>> It may be that we've simply gotten so, so, so many press releases about The Horrors show tonight at the Rock and Roll Hotel, and we've been beaten into submission to mention it. Give the punky-garage rock revivalists a chance for $12 at 8:30 p.m., and let us know if they're worth all the fuss. Seattle's Schoolyard Heroes open, plus locals Scanner Freaks.
>> One of the most anticipated new hip hop albums of the year is certainly Def-Jux co-founder El-P's, who will be at 9:30 Club tonight with DJ Mr. Dibbs and the Mighty Quin. $20.
SATURDAY:
>> Former Monopoli drummer Dave Magazine's new band, The Sketches, will be having a CD Release party and show for their album Secret Alphabets at Jammin' Java in Vienna. 9:30 p.m., with Justin Jones. $10.
>> DCAC hosts a screening of parts 1 and 2 of local filmmaker Eric Cheevers' Las Historias Mas Sexy Del Mundo, a nicely crafted spoof on 1970s European soft-core sex comedies featuring a truly eclectic group of notables like Ian Svenonius, free govt. money guru Matthew Lesko (pictured), and the Raveonettes. 8 p.m., $5.
>> It's going to be all about Capital Pride all weekend long, with an impressive schedule of events this year including a giant party at Love called Collision, featuring DJs Steve Henderson, John Mank, Ting, India, Wes and KOS. It's free before 10 p.m. and $20 after. But make sure you don't miss out on the traditional parade, which starts at 23rd and P Streets NW at 6:30 p.m. (get the whole parade route here).
>> From 2 to 7 p.m., the National Music Center will host a big outdoor concert celebrating local music. Go-go stars The Lissen Band will be on hand to show us how it's done, joined by hip hop outfits The Fif and Awthentik, Unbuckled alumni alt-country rockers These United States, the reggae-inspired BPMs, and a DJ set by Adrian Loving.The entire day costs only $10, and we're told there will be "beer trucks" and "grilled foods," so we're pretty much sold. Outside the former City Building Museum, at 801 K Street NW.
SUNDAY:
>> Solas Nua's production of Northern Irish playwright Owen McCafferty’s Scenes from the Big Picture is still playing at Catholic University's Callan Theatre. Tickets are available here for Sunday's matinee performance at 3 p.m. for just $20. Our reviewer had this to say: "Solas Nua’s ambitious staging of the play solves its logistical challenges with a dollop of invention and a busload of fine actors."

Califone at RnR on Saturday. Bitter Tears and These United States are opening. Should be a good, low key show.
If you like shows that last 25 minutes (that's $.50 a minute) where it's more interesting to watch the singer's antics than actually listen to any of their music, then go see The Horrors for their third show at the RnR Hotel in one year. In my humble opinion, totally not worth it (again unfortunately.) Seriously though - when will RnR stop letting ClearChannel boss them around and tell them what shows to book when they obviously haven't worked before.
AND DCist - don't crumble under the MAN's pressure!
Yeah seriously, let's not neglect to mention the Califone show with These US opening. It's a fantastic lineup; I'm hoping that rumors of an improvement in R&R Hotel's sound turn out to be true.
