Photo of the Day: July 13, 2007

I don't know about you folks, but this writer is getting the heck out of dodge to spend a nice 90 degree day on the sandy shores tomorrow. Even if you're not interested in putting a suit on, a short drive over to the Bay holds a wealth of treasures in the form of delicious, fresh crustaceans and frothy beer waiting for you. Flickr user Oblivious Dude took this shot of a perfectly relaxing summer scene. You might want to follow his lead soon and pick up a few soft shell Blue crabs, since the season is nearing its end already. Mmm...anyone else getting hungry? EXIF.

Man, that pic makes me want to leave the office right now.

Ditto!

DAMN YOU, photo-of-the-day!
Four hours to go!
Damn you all to HELLLL!

Seriously,
where is this?

Nevermind, it's Skipper's Pier

I'm not up on all the crab places on the Bay, but a few weeks ago my friends and I went to Cantler's in Annapolis, about an hour drive and totally worth it.

Must. Have. Sinful. Shellfish!

Go to the trafe now, he calls you, you can't refuse. . .

If you pull back from the scene and add some folks enjoying the food, you'll have a modern recreation of Renoir's "Luncheon of the Boating Party."

You can see it at the Phillips: http://www.phillipscollection.org/html/lbp.html

Those are hard shell crabs, but I'm still jealous. They're good at Bethesda Crab House too, for those of you in upper NW and the MD burbs.

Anybody tried Watermans in Rock Hall, MD? I used to go there are a kid every weekend. Ah, memories...

I like the sippy cup.

The Quarterdeck in Arlington is a nearby-but-inadequate substitute. There's nothing like eating crabs on a pier during sunset, versus on a cement patio looking at two decrepit apartment buildings, a parking lot, and Fort Myer. *sigh*

Get yourself down to Capt. Billy's in Southern Maryland. Whether by boat or by car, it'll worth the trip! It's located at 11495 Popes Creek Rd., Newburg, Maryland.

Arrr, does Guest 13 be Capt Billy himself?

To Guest 14 from Guest 13:

No, I'm not Capt. Billy. But thanks for the compliment! I heard he passed away a couple years ago. Not sure if his family is running it or not.
