Two Nights of Clap Your Hands at Rock & Roll Hotel

2007_0717_cyhsy.jpgThe folks at the Rock and Roll Hotel sure know how to get us interested in something. They sent out an email last night saying tickets will go on sale July 20th for a "blog favorite" band who will be playing two nights at H Street venue. The email added "Hint: The name of the band is has something to do with applauding and a greeting." While "Yeah" isn't really a greeting, our guess is that it's Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, who are the definition of a blog favorite band.

And our guess was confirmed by blogger Brooklyn Vegan, who lists the two shows as November 17 and 18.

We'd certainly like to see the Brooklynites (and Phillyite) in a smaller venue like the Hotel. They released their second album, "Some Loud Thunder" earlier this year. They haven't stopped in D.C. supporting it yet, though the first time they came to our city, this particular blog wasn't all that fond of their live performance.

Anybody excited for this somewhat unusual two night stand? Or have Clap Your Hands clapped the shark?

Didn't this band's fifteen minutes run out about two years ago? "blog favorite". Ick.

this band was over-rated and over-hyped from day one. if pitchfork gave a scott stapp solo album a 10, he would instantly become a million indie morons' favorite new artist.

They are still a fun band. Satan Said Dance live is creeeepy in a great way.

You can hate Pitchfork all you want, but their first album was really quite good. Second one, sort of mediocre with a few stand out tracks.
But it remains that they are terrible live. After seeing them once, I thought it might be stage insecurity. After the second time, I realized that the band just does not give a shit about putting on a good show.

Clap Your Hands does coke?

"Good on record, bad live" can be summed up by two words. PRO TOOLS.

Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth is a truly great indie-pop song. But even the rest of their first album is mediocre at best. And the new album is a total waste of 45 minutes.

But kodus to the RNRH for continuing to book buzz-worthy bands that formerly would trek out to Iota or skip the region altogether. I'm dying to see Okkervil River in September and etc.

The band even got a bad review of their live show on this very site! (Oct 05)

I mentioned that in the post

RnR Hotel has more coke going through it than a New Edition album release party.

Um, yeah, that's why they're playing at the R&R Hotel and not 9:30 or Constitution Hall.

Well, I saw them for the first time at Lolla this weekend, and it was one of the best of 16 or so shows we saw.

I'll be at the Rock and Roll Hotel for this.

I know, I know, I'm old, fat and behind-the-times if I only got around to seeing them now. Whatever.

I go to see shows 3 or so times a month, and this would be a good show for even the 9:30 Club tier. Better than Plain White Tees or Low or Skinny Puppy, and about as good as Ben Gibbard solo. Not necessarily as good as the Frames' last show (ending the tour). All in all, these guys look like they took the criticism of their live performances to heart, and tried, at least for Lolla, to entertain the audience.

Four of the six in attendance for this show on Saturday couldn't help but break out laughing when the singer ended the show by mumbling, as one word, something to the effect of thatwasourlastsongthankyougoodbye.
