Barry Wax Statue Would Be in 'Scandal Room'

2007_0718_barry.jpgYesterday, we learned that former mayor and current D.C. Council member Marion Barry would be honored with a wax statue of his likeness in the new D.C. version of Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. And of course, we joked about placing Hizzoner's statue in any number of court or hotel room settings, playing up his 'Bitch Set Me Up' milieu while paying tribute to his superheroic invulnerability to getting into any real trouble. But leave it to FOX 5 to uncover the shocking truth: in fact, Madame Tussaud's is likely planning on placing the Barry statue in a 'Scandal Room' that would also feature statues of Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton.

Taking time out between stories about common household appliances that can kill you in your sleep and how strangers are looking to kidnap your children and take them to cities without adequate disaster evacuation plans, FOX 5 broke the news to the former mayor on camera last night. If you have the patience to click through to their frustrating flash-based web site, go here and then click on the 'videos' link in the 'SideBar' for the report. In it you can see Barry brushing off the reporter's question about whether this decision by the museum would be a "slap in the face for the District." It's too bad Barry didn't feel the need to demonstrate what a proper slap in the face really feels like in response.

The museum has yet to make a final decision on the matter, but is reportedly leaning strongly toward the 'Scandal Room' placement.

If Mr. Barry's waxen likeness is the Scandal Room, will it be in the company of Fawn Hall and Ollie North, Wilbur Mills and Fannie Fox, Jack Abramoff and Bob Ney, Gary Hart and Donna Rice, Rita and John Jenrette, and Mark Foley and his page pals? And what about Scooter?

He should go between a wax figure of Dick Morris sucking toes and the Beltway sniper.

It's such a shame that no one thought to buy all the furnishings from the hotel room Barry was taped smoking crack in, before it was renovated some years back.

We could have recreated the entire scene.

Mike -- I'm glad someone remembers Wilbur Mills.

...every house needs a "scandal room"... I smell an HGTV special...

is the "crack room" already full?

I believe it's called the "crack den", dc dawg.

Can we get a statue of the guy who first brought loveboat to DC? Everybody thinks that DC in the 1980s was all about the crack, but SOME of us had to make do with parsley sprayed with RAID.

What about marionberry sitting in a dark car with white residue all around his thick black lips?

That's why he dropped out of some campaign a few years ago - OOOPS!

I hope they leave a space for that LIAR and Mayor-for-2years...Adriana Fenty. She's even worst than her friend Sharon. We thought Barry was bad...Move over Barry, now there's something dirtier- Adriana Fenty!....lol

Marion Barry RULES!!!!

Marion Barry is a disgrace and doesn't deserve a statue of himself anywhere, whether in wax at a museum or some prominent location around DC.
