Georgetown DMV is Temporarily Closed
From DC.gov:
The District of Columbia Department of Motor Vehicles Georgetown Service Center, located at 3222 M Street, NW in the Georgetown Park Mall - Lower Level, is experiencing an air conditioning outage. Temperatures were at 89 degrees inside the facility at 8:15 am (the scheduled opening time) and will not open for service today, July 19. Seventeen customers were waiting outside the facility prior to the scheduled opening and were allowed to come into the facility to process their transactions. Signage was posted to inform the public of today’s closure with hours and locations of the DMV’s other three service centers located in Southeast, Northeast and Southwest Washington.
The facility’s management is working to resolve the air conditioning issues and we anticipate reopening on Friday, July 20 for normal hours of operation. Normal hours of operation at the Georgetown Service Center are 8:15 am to 4 pm Monday – Friday. The Georgetown Service Center provides vehicle registrations and renewals, titles, driver license and identification cards issuance and renewals.
All other DMV Service Center locations are open and operating under normal hours. We got at least one report of the C Street branch being so overcrowded early this morning that one D.C. resident who had been dead set on fighting a parking ticket gave up and went home to pay the ticket online. If you were planning on going to the DMV today and can put it off, we'd recommend it.

I was one of those lucky 17 to get in this morning to renew my license. I'm glad I got there early! It was sweltering and the woman that helped me said they've had to work like that all week. I walked in at 8:15 and was on my way out with a new license at 8:39, so a surprisingly positive DMV experience!
I really feel for the people who work there, ESPECIALLY the lady who has to go through the line to make sure everyone's got the right documents. People treat her like absolute shit. I'm sure dealing with irate AND overheated people is no fun when you're overheated yourself...
The Georgetown DMV truly is a very good DMV office. They even let me use their fax machine to get proof of insurance sent to renew my registration when I let it lapse (not only did they let me use it, they were the ones to suggest using it in the first place).
But really, this story makes me think we've grown extremely soft in this A/C'd world of ours. One hundred years ago, the Department of Horse Drawn Vehicles wouldn't have closed down like this. And they'd all be wearing three-piece suits, to boot.
Now they probably all smelled like a gym sock, but nobody noticed much, what with the horses and open sewers all over the place.
seriously, I go to the DMV once in how many years and today is the day I decided to ride my bike to the georgetown one. lame.
One hundred years ago, the Department of Horse Drawn Vehicles wouldn't have been in a building stuffed with heat producing electronis and with windows that don't open.
Apples and oranges.
I was at the Georgetown branch on Tuesday and the A/C was working.
