For all you liberal/progressive internet/Netroots types in town who are heading to Chicago later this week for the behemoth 2nd annual YearlyKos Convention — and we know there are more than just a few of you — allow us to recommend some programming. On Friday, August 3 from 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., the panel you'll want to make sure not to miss is Taxation Without Representation: Alive and Well in the Nation's Capital, which will feature DCist's own Senior Editor Martin Austermuhle.
Martin will be joined by Mike Panetta, D.C.'s Shadow Representative, Danny Rose from DC Vote, and Kesh Ladduwahetty, the Chair of DC for Democracy to discuss the latest on the District's struggle for voting rights. Here's how the convention is describing the panel:
For the 600,000 American citizens who live in the District of Columbia, taxation without representation isn’t something in the history books – it’s a fact of life. Despite paying Federal taxes, serving on juries, and fighting in wars they are denied a voting representation in the House and Senate. Come hear more about what life is like in the last colony – and what you can do to help put an end to this blight on our democracy.While the war in Iraq and the upcoming presidential elections will no doubt dominate the majority of convention debate, don't forget to show up to engage in conversation on this crucial local issue. With the Senate vote on the Voting Rights Act around the corner, the more attention we can draw to the historical disenfranchisement of the District on a national stage, the better position we'll be in to finally gain a full voting member in the House. Martin will also hopefully be blogging from the convention to let us know how it went, so check back on Friday for more.

Fantastic, DCist is taking the voting rights movement to the tinfoil hat convention. Positively wonderful. I'm sure DC Statehood will earn a spot on their manifesto next to such worthy causes as a separatist lesbian anarcho-syndicalist state in DuPont Circle and the prosecution of George Bush's dog Barney for war crimes.

This again? I can't wait to see the blogs filled with stories about how important blogs are and how this Kos-event has replaced the national political conventions as the most important event on every candidate's calendar.
Say hi to Howard Dean for me. Ask him how his "blog-based" Presidential campaign panned out.
