Glow moves to Ibiza
Written by DCist contributor Jason Cox
Good news for all you electronic fiends out there - you no longer have to fly overseas to hit up the Mecca of nightlife, Ibiza. OK, that might be a bit of an overstatement, but a new dance metropolis borrowing the island’s name opened in D.C. last weekend and has not only drawn the attention of local clubbers, but some of the city’s biggest party planners as well, namely Panorama Productions.
Starting this Saturday, the Panorama party event known as Glow (formerly held at Fur, just across the street from the new Ibiza) will trance your pants off at the new venue. Pete Kalamoutsos, a managing partner of Panorama and Glow, said that the move away from Fur isn’t personal, but rather one of those "it’s time for a move" moves.
Glow’s first evening in Ibiza will feature one of Chicago’s premiere DJs, Blake Jarrell, as well as an opening set by resident DJ Dan Sampson. Kalamoutsos was also kind enough to let DCist in on a few of the artists already lined up for the fall at Ibiza, before they’ve been announced on Glow's Web site. Benny Benassi will spin Sept. 22, Paul Van Dyk on Oct. 25, and Armin Van Buuren on Nov. 3. Also lined up before year’s end is Gabriel and Dresden, as well as Dubfire and Sharam from Deep Dish.
The guys behind Ibiza dropped a cool $6 million into the club, $1 million of which was spent on the light and sound system alone. Kalamoutsos said patrons won’t just be treated to videos playing on a loop on TVs, but rather an LED light show integrated into the walls themselves. We can only hope there might be a bit more room to enjoy the scenery than there was at Fur, since Ibiza will be able to pack in about 3,000 D.C. night owls.
