Out and About: Weekend Picks
FRIDAY:
>> The fun, free funk and soul dance party, Moneytown at Rock and Roll Hotel, is featuring a special guest DJ named Harry Hotter, which is reason enough in itself to check to it out just to see if he'll be dressing the part. DJ Nitekrawler will also be there as usual. 9:30 p.m. to close. And don't forget to check out our full preview of 1990s, who play downstairs with Red Romance and Telograph for $10, 9:30 p.m.
>> Like we mentioned in our weekly cinema picks, Labyrinth is beginning a one week only run at Landmark's E Street Cinemas. At 7:10 and 9:45 p.m., don't miss David Bowie in the tightest pants you've even seen on a man. There had better be some sing-a-longs going on in there, people.
SATURDAY:
>> It's time again for the annual Dog Days of August Sidewalk Sale and Festival, which coincides with the beginning of the District's Tax Free Holiday. All along 14th Street, U Street, and P Street NW, vendors will be out on the sidewalks with special sales and restaurants will have food and drink specials. Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. And don't forget about the Best in Show Dog Contest at 10th and U Streets on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., with prizes including "Friendliest" and "Most Mysterious Heritage."
>> DJ Dredd is back with another Prince dance party at Black Cat, and this time up it's Prince vs. Outkast II on the main stage. It's going to sweaty up there. $12.
>> If you're heading to the massive Virgin Festival at Pimlico, don't miss our guide for how to manage your time so as not to miss the best stuff.
SUNDAY:
>> It's Black Cat bartender Chad America's birthday, so that means it's time to rock. The City Goats, the Points and Suns of Guns will play a free show backstage for Chad's annual birthday celebration, and in case you didn't know, Chad likes his birthdays to be loud. 9 p.m.

Harry Hotter has been a regular DJ at Science Club for a while. Great DJ, always knows how to work the ebb and flow to get a crowd frenzied. Highly recommend checking him out.
I'm not familiar with Mr. Chad America, but here's an article from earlier this week on washingtonpost.com on The Points and Dr. Mayhem told me that they are also playing Galaxy Hut on Saturday night.
you remind me of the babe.
what babe?
oh, man. the dog contest was totally cancelled. And i beleive that link to the dog days sale is from last year. i went all the way over to the U St. Memorial with my dog Jelly, only to find the contest was not happening. imagine how crushed she was. so i awarded her best in show myself.
