About Tonight

2007_0807_abouttonight.jpg

>> The hippest bill tonight is new Saddle Creek Records artists Tokyo Police Club, a pop-rocking group of Canadians who will bring their catchy tunes to the Rock and Roll Hotel tonight to play with Ra Ra Riot, and D.C.'s Jukebox the Ghost. 9 p.m., $12.

>> Band of Horses take the 9:30 Club stage tonight, and tickets are still available. Check out our review of their show at the Black Cat last year. Tonight they play with Love as Laughter and A Decent Animal. $15, doors at 7:30 p.m., first band starts at 8:30.

>> We're fans of Cafe Scientifique, the National Science Foundation's semi-regular science-themed salon that gives Washington's nerdiest a chance to dish. Tonight at The Front Page in Ballston, esteemed science reporter Chris Mooney will be on hand to to give a short presentation and answer questions about his latest book, Storm World: Hurricanes, Politics, and the Battle Over Global Warming. Come for drinks starting at 6 p.m., presentation starts at 6:30.

>> It's certainly hot out there, so maybe the best move is to head straight for the sweet, sweet embrace of air conditioning inside a movie theater. Have you seen Labyrinth at the E Street theater yet?

I saw Labyrinth last night, it was a treat.

But -- David Bowie's package should have gotten a credit all by itself.

I too saw Labyrinth last night, but felt the show was ruined by the large crowd laughing inappropriately. Yes, David Bowie is a well-hung sex machine but we are no longer teenagers.
