Touch Up D.C. #1

2007_0808_touchupdc%282%29.jpg

We've already received a few submissions to our August Touch Up D.C. photo editing extravaganza, so here's our very first selection, by Flickr user htlvhwy, titled "Tessie, the Tidal Basin Monster." The serene paddle boaters are a particularly nice touch to this mashup of Scottish folklore and American tourism. Well played, htlvhwy!

In case you missed yesterday's announcement, inspired by our sister site Londonist's regular Touch Up London feature, we're going to run the best submissions we get from our readers of creatively re-imagined scenes from around Washington, D.C. Upload your best Photoshopped entries to Flickr, tag them with "touchupdc," and we'll post them throughout the month of August as a way to beat back those humidity blues.

Great work, htlvhwy! This could be a whole theme for entries...

Nice picture, though I don't agree on the paddle boaters. Their inclusion affects the perspective - the beast would be about the size of a salamander once he swam up to the boat.

This stinks...it was the best? Is the point to make sure it looks really fake? If so I apologize for my comment.

There are only four showing up currently. I know that I uploaded one at about 9:00 this morning and tagged it as "touchupdc" but it has yet to show up on the "touchupdc" taglist. According to Flickr it can take 24-48 hours to show up.

Also, if you look at Touch Up London, they are all very fake looking.

How realistic did the Londonist photo from yesterday look with springs and gears shooting out of Big Ben? Geez, live a little, this is a lark. Or did you always get really upset when Terry Gilliam's Python animations looked really fake?

I"m by no means an art afficianado, nor even a novice, I just like what I like and this I didn't like. Not saying the person sucks, just that...oh why am I even wrtiting anymore.

Heh, I thought it'd be obvious that it'd be pretty difficult to achieve a real life rendition of a creature that is only purported to be real. Now I kinda wish I spent more than half an hour on this. ;)

no..i think you did an awesome job. it really made me smile cause its so silly.

hope future choices are just as funny.
