Redskins fans collectively breathed a sigh of relief today when they discovered that quarterback (and, to some, potential franchise savior) Jason Campbell's MRI did not reveal serious damage. The Auburn grad, entering his third season as a pro, was handed the keys to the offense midway through last season. Just as Redskins fans were beginning to wrap their minds around the idea of having a long-term solution at the quarterback position, tragedy nearly struck.

In the midst of a 12-10 preseason loss, Campbell was hit by Steeler Brett Keisel as he released the football. The tackle came at JC's legs, and it twisted his knee as it knocked him to the ground. Thankfully, the damage was limited to a bruise.

The sight of franchise quarterback limping off the field was bad enough, but also adding linebacker Marcus Washington's dislocated right elbow to the 'Skins list of walking wounded during the NFL's meaningless preseason made it all the more maddening. We understand that in-game experience can be valuable to younger players, but for Gibbs' sake -- please, let's keep the franchise players off the field as much as possible until September.
