Photo of the Day: August 21, 2007

He loves me; He loves me not; He loves me... We may be making history on DCist today, all. I don't know if a food photograph has ever been selected as POTD, but it's bound to happen if you let the foodies fill in. This photo of some delicious bresaola from LaTur leaves me feeling both hungry and jealous. Hungry because it's lunchtime, and jealous that I won't be enjoying a platter of cured meat this noon hour. Almost as delicate as rose petals, these thin slices of meat are prosciutto's much less salty, more complex flavored bovine cousin. If you haven't tried it, look for it on menus at places like 2Amy's (which is where this photo was taken), Dino, Sonoma, or at your local meat counter or cheesemonger (Cheesetique in Del Ray has a particularly good version). Kudos to our DCist photogs and their great food photography! EXIF.

mmmmmm..... salted meat
You can also find it at Trader Joe's.
Add to a salad of arugula and parmigiano. Lightly dress with mixture of excellent olive oil and lemon. Yum. Just like in Fiesole...
I find this photograph offensive to vegetarians and to the memories of the cows who gave their lives so that it could be made. I think DCist owes both these groups a retraction and apology.
hahaha.
I agree with comment number 1 and as for comment #3 if it's so offensive to look at... Don't Look! And what did the cow ever do for you? I'm sure if you were in harm's way the cow wouldn't jump in and save you. We don't owe the cow nothin'!
Woven together, those meats would make the best pair of boxers. I invite all you "guests" to eat my shorts.
Also, yogurt cultures let out microscopic screams when you eat them.
Mmmmm... cow.
Can't wait for my copy of Fergus Henderson's "The Whole Beast" to get here so I can start making lamb cheeks and so on. I know I won't be inviting #3 over to dinner.
There is a large flickr group called "Bacon" at flickr.com/groups/everythingsbetterwithbacon/
Guest #5, I'd like to introduce you to a little something called sarcasm. It seems you've never met.
Samer - I've got "Beast." Make sure you try the Roast Bone Marrow on Toast. Trust the Monkey on this one.

Mmmmm.. what a fantastic POD, and haha to guest3. I could 'hear' the sarcasm in your voice as I read it. That is, if you are a man, becuase that's the voice I heard.
Hrm. I tried to post something but it got eaten...
I love marrow, so I'll probably try that recipe. Thanks, Monkey!
enjoy ;-)
