I see that car all the time parked illegaly with fucking Florida plates. Not even the Save the Manatee or Florida Panther plates, it has the stupid outline of a penis-shaped state plates. Get a picture of it on the back of a tow truck next time.

that guy does hate paying his tickets. always parked around lauriol plaza.

I was just wondering the other day when he'd get in trouble for his out-of-state registration...I've seen that car around here for almost a year, and they're definitely strict about the out-of-state thing in this neighborhood (a friend almost got impounded), not to mention how much that car stands out. Guess it was only a matter of time...

death to ugly cars

What, no comment on how well the paint on the boot matches that on the car? Seriously, it's like the factory planned that one out ahead of time...

Oh. Just read the title. Nevermind; my blush matches my wine at the moment...

If said asshole is in the military, he can have Florida plates while living in DC for as long as he wants.

Actually, the car is Pantone 152; the boot is closer to Pantone 180. But we'll let it slide.

This time.

I've seen that same car with the same matching boot parked on 18th across from Lauriol.

I like how none of you girls know what kind of car that is.

You guys are totally hating.
I see that car all the time too…and its awesome. That car rules, it sexy.
The only good part of the boot is that it matches. Other than that give him a break. With that ride, just let him park wherever.

this chick says its a cheap ass lotus !

unless there are two Lotus in that nasty orange color in NW DC, this guy lives between 17 and 18 on Church Street. He actually has a parking spot in the alley between Church and Q.

must suck to be booted though. haha.

Anyone think this guy could be an ice road trucker?

...maybe a girl drives it?

ps. THIS girl knows it's an ugly colored LOTUS.

#12 and #15 am teh winnar.

I'm never suprised at people blowing six figures on expensive Euro cars--ones that were designed to cruise at 150mph--and basically destroying them in crowded US cities. Keeping these things in first and second gear all the time pretty much ruins the engine and drive train but, fuggit, if you can afford the maintenance and the parking tickets, more power to you.

I live near there and think I've seen the driver - a short guy.

The car is powered by a 1.8L Toyota Engine, aka, a Celica. The engine can handle city wear and tear. Now the suspension on the otherhand is a totally different story.

"The car is powered by a 1.8L Toyota Engine, aka, a Celica. The engine can handle city wear and tear. "

Wrong again.

The 2ZZ-GE engine used in Elise is borrowed from the Celica GT-S, and it shares the same 6-speed manual transmission and gear ratios as the top Celica model.

http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/thecar/engine/toyota.html

#18 is actually right, the Lotus Elise engines either have a 1.8 liter toyota engine or a 1.8 liter MG engine, though it's a variable valve timing (VVT) engine and not your base model celica engine. It might be in the S type Celica or whatever Toyota calls it.

The strength of the car is not the all aluminum 190 HP powerplant but the fact that the car weighs around 1,600 pounds. To give you an idea about how light that is, my Volkswagen GTI weighs about 3,000 pounds, has a 200 horsepower 6-cylinder and goes 135 mph.

And as for it not being fit to drive in a city because of it's "european design" to go 150 mph... it's a car primarily used for autocross, so it's pretty happy in second gear. Sure it's not great for the clutch, but it's not like driving stick in a city destroys the entire transmission. At the worst you have to replace the clutch sooner than you would if you were driving on the highway all the time, but driving on the highway all the time also puts miles on your car which wears out other parts like busings, gaskets, seals, tires, etc. I'm sure the car is in pretty good shape if they live in D.C. It looks like a 2k2 Lotus Elise which means I bet it only has like 60,000 miles on it.

Gotta love when a car post is made on DCist and everyone who knows how to hold a steering wheel thinks they're an expert.

Duh, steering wheel?

wow, much cheaper than I ever thought. hilarious. at least it's not an H3.

owned

I'm trying to remember if it was an orange one I see every so often in Arlington; I believe not.

Me want ... just without the matching accessory.

Oh, and yeah: these things are much less expensive than they look.

Ty: I love how you think you're an expert.

This is crazy.
I know the owner.
I’ve driven this car. Very fun to drive.
He could not care less about the boot.

Yes it is.
I know the owner too.
Nice guy.
Not particularly responsible
and not a particularly skilled driver
either.

To #28.. Ty is dead on in his assessment of the Lotus, as an avid car fan, I couldn't have said it better myself.

It would make a great car for clipping through Civic Hybrid driving pansies like you on K street during rush hour.

See, what I love is when people wander in to a forum like this and think that people are going to be bothered by gearheads calling them "girls" and "pansies" for not knowing as much as they do about cars. Enjoy your toys, boys.
