Don't Forget: D.C. and Virginia Tax Holidays

2007_0802_sale.jpgGot anything you've been wanting to buy but haven't had a good enough reason to run out to the store and get it? Well the annual Shop DC Tax Free event begins this Saturday, Aug. 4 and continues through Sunday, Aug. 12. Buyers won't have to pay a dime of the usual 5.75 percent sales tax for shoes, clothing, accessory items, and school supplies for any item $100 or less.

At the same time, Virginia's Sales Tax Holiday kicks off tomorrow, but lasts only three days. Purchases of school supplies selling for $20 or less per item, and articles of clothing, including footwear, selling for $100 or less per item, will be exempt from sales tax in the state of Virginia from Friday, Aug. 3 at 12:01 a.m. until midnight on Sunday, Aug. 5.

These sales tax exemptions apply to each eligible item regardless of how many items are sold on the same bill to a customer. Sorry Marylanders, but you're not having a tax free holiday this year, so if you want to take advantage of the savings, you'll have to come to the District or Virginia.
