Weekly Music Agenda

2007_1308_pineboxboys.jpgMONDAY
>> Fiending for some good ol' bluegrass and Americana? San Francisco's The Pine Box Boys will be delivering just that at the Red and the Black tonight. With two drinks tonight, you'll also be served free beans and rice. We suggest some whiskey to wash it all down. Or, The Whale and Revival open. 9:30 p.m., $8.

>>Enjoy the slightly cooler weather by taking in Georgie James, Perfect Souvenir and Brandon Butler at Fort Reno. Show starts promptly at 7:15, Free.

>> Take in the Bottle Rockets' eclectic American music at Iota. 8:30 p.m., $13.

TUESDAY
>> Not to be confused with Jane Fonda's movie about a dance marathon, Vancouver's rock collective They Shoot Horses Don't They? play experimental indie/folk/freak music that has been receiving some pretty contradictory press. Ostinato and Karate Bear open for them at the Black Cat. Backstage 9 p.m., $8.

WEDNESDAY
>> Reportedly A Place To Bury Strangers is "unlike anything you've ever heard," and we hope that the speakers in the backstage at the Black Cat do this trio's loud psychedelic surf music justice. Airiel opens. 9 p.m., $7.

>> If you miss Georgie James on Monday, check out their acoustic set at DC9 tonight during the ShervinFoto Book Release Party. Shervin Lainez' Happy Accidents documents 25 D.C. bands over the past 2 years. The book comes with a compilation CD or 12 tracks from 12 bands in the book.

>> We'd be remiss not to mention that alt-country chanteuse Neko Case will be performing a sold out show at the 9:30 Club tonight. Since her last album was released over a year ago, we hope that she will be testing out some new material on this tour. Eric Bachmann opens.

>> Another Fort Reno summer of rock ends tonight. Expect plenty of closing night drama from drag-rocker Edie Sedgwick (aka Justin Moyer of Antelope and the Washington City Paper), and 3 chord noise from art-punkers Sentai, and Eyeball Skeleton, a trio featuring brothers age 8 and 10 and their dad. 7:15 p.m., Free.

FRIDAY
>> We wrote about it last week, but let us remind you again: Local indie favorites Let's French are calling it quits, so catch their last ever show on Friday at the Black Cat. We'll be sad to see the Three Stars alums go. They're joined by fellow Three Stars alums Greenland, as well as Nunchucks. 9 p.m., $10.

>> With their live shows being equated with religious experiences and the electronic equivalent of some of the great psychedelic jam bands, Rabbit in the Moon's mix of original music, live video projects and performance art at the 9:30 club should not be missed. 11 p.m. doors. $25 in advance, $30 at the door.

SATURDAY
>> Let the backpackers and indie-rock only purists snear, but I'll take the pop-friendly rap and R&B performers of the Screamfest 2007 tour over many predictable hipster acts. Headliner T.I.'s latest cd may not be his best work, but expect his charismatic delivery and T-Pain's vocoder-altered vocals to provide the most screams. They'll be joined by Ciara, Yung Joc, and Lloyd at the Verizon Center. 7 p.m., $55/$65.

2007_1308_blue.jpg>> Philadelphia soul quintet Blue Magic's big moment of fame came in 1974 when their luscious harmony-filled R&B hit "Sideshow" crossed over to the pop charts. Not sure how many original members are left, but some incarnation of the group will be getting nostalgic with Enchantment, The Persuaders, and Heatwave at Carter Barron. 7:30 p.m., $20.

SUNDAY
>> The last time white Bermuda dancehall rapper Collie Budz was in the area he was at reggae hotspot the Crossroads. Tonight, Budz, whose "Come Around" has been getting some crossover video airplay, will be at the 930 Club while Jamaican Assassin is out in Bladensburg at the Crossroads. 8 p.m., $25.

>> In 2001, Linkin Park established the annoyingly mispelled Projekt Revolution as an annual tour. This year you can take in My Chemical Romance and Linkin Park as well a many other groups of the harder-rock and rap variety at Nissan Pavillion. Gates open at 11:30 a.m., Tickets start at $29.

>> For those of you who still hold a candle for Neutral Milk Hotel, get thee to DC9 tonight for Dark Meats, a 14 member collective featuring members of Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Elf Power and others. Metric's rhythm section also perform as Bang Lime. $8.
