Photo of the Day: September 11, 2007

We like our animal photos with a gallon of 'cute' and just a dash of 'omg ew.' Flickr user static-photo's perfectly timed capture of this cow's enormous schnozz as it tries to snack on his camera up in Frederick, Md. fits the bill. The wee beady eyes just peeking out from behind make the photo. Now someone go get a napkin already. EXIF.

Get your cameras ready, folks, because it's time for another DCist Photographer's Meet-up. Mark your calendars for Sunday, September 23, at 2 p.m., and come find us on the second floor of Solly's Tavern, conveniently located a block from the U Street metro, right on the corner of 11th and U Streets NW. Great minds think alike, and it turns out the main Washington D.C. Flickr group was planning one of their regular meet-ups the same weekend, so we figured, why not host them together? Please come join us for a lot of beers, a little geeked-out camera talk, and a real live venue to put those Flickr names to faces.

What, no photo of a crying bald eagle?

eyes "peeking" not "peaking"

Just so everyone knows, Solly's is a huge football hangout and the bar will be packed with fans for various teams well before 2pm on any Sunday during the season.

oooo great photo!

wonderful! (and totally cute!)

Sept. 23? That also happens to be the last Nats game at RFK at 12:05 PM...

Re: the photo meet-up. No matter what day we choose, there's going to be some crucial game going on, at least according to the sports fans I know. And about the bar, we're avoiding a Redskins game at 4pm, also, any bar in town big enough for us is going to be a sports bar, so we're just going to have to deal with it, sorry guys.

what a cute cow! great photo

Are you sure it's big enough? I was there this past Sunday and there was only 1 Redskins fan (so that doesn't seem to be a problem). However, they have the football package so they get every game and there are only about 6 tables in the whole upstairs bar and they were packed by 12:30pm. Just letting you know.

Uh oh, it's a sports/football bar? Maybe I'll show up early and try to ward off the football fans with an extra-special display of nerdiness.

Guest 9 - Well, there are more like 12 tables, plus the bar area, plus the downstairs, plus the patio outside. It's not ideal, I know, but we'll find space.

I was at Solly's this Sunday and I definitely wouldn't describe it as "packed." We rolled in around 1:30 (thanks to the debacle that was an attempt at opening football Sunday a few blocks down at Nellie's). All the tables were taken but there were a lot of empty chairs. So three of us were able to gather a few chairs together and enjoy the games comfortably. And the porch and downstairs bar were pretty empty.

Plus, you can bring in your own food!
