Go Home Already: Shana Tova

>> A photography exhibit that documents the Anacostia neighborhoods is traveling to Northern Ireland. The photos are by Mervyn Smith, who visited D.C. for a visual arts and creative writing residency, and they were displayed in an exhibit at the Honfleur Gallery early this summer. The exhibit will hang in two venues in the transitioning city of Belfast to show its similarities to Anacostia, where the river may divide the area from the city proper, but it also creates a tight-knit sense of community.

congrats sommer! keep up the good work.

Funny that Sommer posts a post about her write-up in the Wall Street Journal. Self-promote away!

And now I get it...Arizona native by way of LA as editor means DCist really doesn't cover DC. DCist covers only what over-educated DC pilgrims care about.

Congratulations, Sommer!

PS #2, you're a putz.

Man, g3, that was unnecessarily nasty. But I guess that's the nature of the Internet, ain't it? A troll under every bridge. I thought she displayed a certain level of tactful restraint by posting it as a mildly sardonic end-of-the-day item. So as a DC native--as if that means anything to anyone who isn't paralyzed by narrow-minded provincialism--I say congratulations to Sommer & DCist.

Ah, the beauty of commenting...Being able to say what you please--without even for a second thinking of how it makes other people feel. Thanks for that #2. How thoughtful of you.

Congrats Sommer (and DCist)--keep up the good work.

Congrats Sommer. I check in on the site multiple times a day, and appreciate all the hours it must consume to put together. They should at least enroll you in a better health plan!

- Mr. T in DC

Congrats Sommer! I knew it all along.

Seems to me that Gothamist, LLC should at least reimburse for ISP fees. I mean, really... business cards? In the blogosphere? Is that useful?

"hipster-heavy U Street" - is there another U St. in DC that I'm not aware of? I've been living/working in DC for several years, and I can count the number of hipsters I've seen walking around on my hands (not counting trips to Warehouse).

I find that the DC definition of hipster involves popped collars and Kim Jong Il-sized sunglasses. So, yes, U Street does fit.

If you've been walking around on your hands, maybe it's just that the hipsters you've passed haven't been wearing hipster shoes.

If you're walking around your hands, you might be too distracted avoiding all of the broken glass, banana chips, and bum piss to even take note of hipsters.

Congratulations!

But how come they didn't do one of those prototypical Wall Street Journal line drawings of you? If I were you I'd demand a line drawing. We want line a drawing!

So someone egged the car that the Whitman Condo Blogger has been ranting about... Now violence is being threatened. For a textbook example of how NOT to run a DC blog (and to laugh at a comically insane blogger), go here: www.thewhitmandc.blogspot.com

It's dangerous to call someone out like that in a blog, even if they are being a doofus. You're pretty much inviting some harm to befall him OR the car that he drives. That someone as egged the car should not be surprising to anyone.

That being said, one of the commenters there had a good suggestion: just call a tow truck and have the vehicle removed. If it's that big of a pain to everyone, and if 'No Parking' signs are posted, then just get it out of there.

That is one of the stranger blogs I've ever seen.

What a busybody.

Yeah, and read the comments on his blog. It seems like he/she isn't too popular among fellow residents (for good reason). I really think DCist should highlight this blog... It's just so bizarre and unintentionally hilarious.

Shana Tova one day, but no Ramadan Kareem the next?

Well, what difference does it matter if a vehicle is parked in an alley? The posts are hilarious, I guess the owner of the vehicle already knows who is responsible for the egging..
