Go Home Already: Cruel Intentions

What, no About Tonight?

There are some Mondays where it just isn't worth it to put one up, because we covered most everything in the Music Agenda and the Reader, Meet Author. Rest assured, you'll get one every other day, and any Monday where there's something else we really want to point out.

Please report on the demonstration held today against Fun Fair Video. Some local news orgs and Commander Groomes showed up....

Fun Fair Video, located at 919 5th Street, continues its illegal operation despite over a decade of DCRA, the BZA, and the courts finding that it is not licensed to operate a sexually-oriented business. It considers itself a video "arcade" where patrons can insert money in a booth to watch xxx video clips. Even worse, neighbors report routinely seeing drug activity and prostitution from the premises and are afraid to walk on their own block. For those of us north of this illegal business, we all know to avoid the area and tell out visitors to do the same. It's time to shut Fun Fair down, NOW.

The Coalition to Shut Down Fun Fair Video, made up of MVSNA, the Downtown Neighborhood Association, and several condo associations will

Rally was outside Fun Fair on Monday, September 17, at 6pm.

^They were there first, you will just have to find somewhere else to put another starbucks.

dear mitch mcconnell:

are you a member of the judicial branch of the government?

no?

you're not?

that's amazing, because i thought the judiciary got to rule on whether or not legislation is unconstitutional?

and the legislative branch gets to legislate.

you are a member of the legislative branch, aren't you???

that's what i thought. i was just checking, sir.

you may now go back to being a toady douche, mr. minority leader. i hope you choke.

so, if we get the right to vote, what happens to our license plates?

IMGoph, don't forget we're in a world where the Vice President says he's not in the executive branch. He must be in the VICE PRESIDENT BRANCH...or something?

"They were there first, you will just have to find somewhere else to put another starbucks."

Who said anything about a Starbucks? Fun Fair is an illegally operated business. Is that a little difficult for you to understand?

Ask the Rude Pundit what the substance was. IMGoph clearly is a GOP-er because they lack ANY sense of humor.

guest [9] - WTF?

sense of humor what? i got sommer's joke, it was funny. i'm saying mitch mcconnell isn't. and his opposition to DC voting rights on what is obviously partisan grounds isn't funny either.

call the dcboee, i'm a registered democrat, and i vote democratic in nearly every race. my political views tend more to the socialist side of things, so accusing me of being a republican is a joke.

I agree that McConnell is against this more on partisan grounds than anything else; but to say that a legislator should pass whatever they want, regardless of the constitutionality of the bill, is clearly wrong.

Personally I think it is a close enough call that it's not irresponsible to pass this bill, but as a general matter I'd prefer Congress not make a habit of passing laws that aren't constitutional.

i agree, reid. the problem with this bill is that its constitutionality isn't clear. so, i say we have to pass it to allow the judicial branch to weigh in and let us know if we need to go back to the drawing board on this one.

BostonRay points out: Article V is the only way to change the Constitution. It takes a vote among the states to admit a state. Just what state does the District claim to be? That is the Constitution of the United States. It takes a vote of the people. Just passing a bill is precisely what the Founding Fathers wanted to protect against. You cannot have political bimbos changing the Constitution for petty political agendas and fads. Sheesh!
