Nats' new park on schedule, on budget.

"On budget" being a tad bit relative, don't you think? If someone gave me twice the money needed to complete a task, I would probably end up on budget too.

How can the park be on schedule? They haven't even sold the naming rights yet. I look forward to attending that first game at Preparation H Park.

Why are NYT travel articles about DC always so insufferably, atrociously bad??

Apparently Gays make USA superior to all others...Let that be a lesson to you Right Wing Nuts, you are either with the gays or you stand with Iran.

isn't it DC law for cars to stop for pedestrians crossing in a CROSSWALK? why are they investigating to see who was at fault? the cops hit a guy crossing the street. do they really need to do forensic testing?

So if the light is green for cars on a road, and a pedestrian casually crosses the road, then the pedestrian has right-0f-way?

Go ahead, and try doing this on a busy road, or better yet, do it at a circle crossing with the assumption that you're "legally" crossing the road.

We don't have homosexuals in Iran like in your country

Because Iranian queers are far less bitchy than American ones? They don't hog the poppers? They're all bears and bottoms?

I really wish there was a little followup here. Because if Iranian queens are more fabulous than ours, I know a lot of local gayboys who'd book a flight on Air Ayatolla toot suite.

Woo! Woo! Next stop: the Tehran Tenderloin!

Rusty,

What the hell do you know about building a ballpark that would have saved the District $300 million, and if you're so concerned, why didn't you let them know about it?

If it's the crosswalk I'm thinking of, and I think it is, it's not at an intersection with a stoplight and walk/do not walk signs, but rather is a standalone crosswalk, in which case the pedestrian ALWAYS has the right of way. The whole purpose of those kinds of crosswalks is to help pedestrians safely cross the road in areas where stoplights are few and far between (as is the case here) or where there is simply a lot of foot traffic (such as Adams Morgan). A lot of drivers don't seem to understand this, in DC as well as Boston (not trying to single those cities out, they're just the two where I've encountered this phenomenon), and the results can be disastrous.

I find it extremely sad, that of all people, a police officer did not slow down as he/she approached the cross walk. What probably happened was that the police officer could not see the pedestrian crossing the street because of the car that had already stopped to allow the pedestrian to cross. However, this is no excuse for the police officer. He/she should have slowed down if they could not clearly see whether or not the crosswalk was clear.

BostonRay was there: mellbell, it was the crooswalk in front of Starbucks in the 3400 block of Wisconsin Ave. NW (next to SunTrust Bank). The man had just left the shop and was crossing the street. You are correct that it is a stand alone x-walk with no lights. There are signs (very small) that mandate stopping for pedestrians but those of us in the area never use this x-walk prefering to use common sense and cross at Newark St. where there are lights and improved chance of survival. It's only about 150 feet down the street. Glad to hear the man will make it as he looked like he might not at the scene. The police investigation was equal to what one would see in a fatal accident. Lots and lots of police brass at this one.

"Those of us in the area never use this x-walk prefering to use common sense and cross at Newark St. where there are lights and improved chance of survival. It's only about 150 feet down the street."

Yeah! That septuagenarian asshole! No common sense, or maybe a death-wish. After all, it was only a hundred yards out of his way. When will the elderly learn?

Funny, but I know several queer Iranians. And they all live here....hmm.

BostonRay has to correct the reading impaired: Guest #12 - U-M-m-m - The post reads "150 feet". Like, ya know, 150 yards is 450 feet, dude, math is such a drag with conversion factors n' stuff. ya think?

99% of all NYT Travel/Trend/Style pieces are atrocious. "Growing numbers of ..." "More and more people ..." etc etc blah

#14 150 ft = 50 yards. So the distance to the "common sense" crossing would be 2 x 50 = 100 yards.

Dude.
