Manhole Explosion Leaves Some Without Power
We've long been concerned with the dangers of exploding manholes, and this morning one such explosion has disrupted electricity to businesses and residences in an area of downtown just north of Sherman Circle, in the 900 block of Farragut St. NW. The Associated Press says that Pepco has been notified and crews should already be on the scene. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. Anyone seen anything down there?

I thought Exploding Manholes was a group you recommended on the Weekly Music Agenda.
Sommer, are you one of those Marylanders who refer to everything in the District as "downtown"??? The 900 block of Farragut Street is Petworth--not really even close to qualify as "downtown".
This isn't hard, folks.
Could this be why all the streetlights in that area were out this morning as I drove to work?
Whoa! Hold the phone, Mabel. I thought Jim Graham shut down all the exploding manholes. Or glory holes. Or something.
HAHA, I knew I smelled something Fishy in Petworth...
I don't really think of Petworth as being part of "downtown" but....
I wondered why all the traffic lights were out on the way to work today. Although we had power in my part of Petworth (near the cemetery). I'm most excited about the newly discovered fact that I live downtown! Who knew?
This is interesting. I live on the 800 block of Farragut St and had no idea it was a manhole explosion!! We lost power for about 40 minutes. At this point I'm just psyched that we are considered "an area of downtown" and that we made dcist AND the Associated Press!!
