About Tonight

2007_0926_abouttonight%282%29.jpg

>> D.C. United and Chivas Guadalajara renew their budding rivalry this evening. The match is part of the Copa Nissan Sudamericana, a 34-team invitational tournament featuring the best clubs of South America and several North American teams looking to crash the party. The match could be one of the most entertaining, competitive affairs this season. United aims to atone for their first round exit from the tournament two years ago; they also seek to avenge this March's CONCACAF Champion's Cup semifinal loss to the same Chivas club they face tonight. For information and perspective regarding United and the Copa, check out the Soccer Insider and the DCenters. Tickets $25-60. RFK Stadium, 8:30 p.m.

>> The National Building Museum hosts a panel discussion titled Can the Suburbs Kill You? Measuring the Health Effects of Urban Sprawl from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Panelists include Glen Barnard, senior vice president for KB Home; Dr. Howard Frumkin, director of the Center for Environmental Health and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; Robert Fishman, professor of architecture and urban planning at the University of Michigan; and Margaret Walls, senior fellow and co-director of research at Resources for the Future. Check out our recent review of the latest show at the museum, Washington: Symbol and City. $20, $12 for museum members.

>> Via the GOGs, Dogfish Head Alehouse is having a soft opening at 4 p.m. in the Seven Corners Center in Falls Church. Devotees of the Dogfish Head brews, take note.

>> Supreme Court watchers will want to stop by Politics and Prose tonight, where CNN Senior Legal Analyst Jeffrey Toobin will be at 7 p.m. for a reading of his new book, The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court. Free.

While suburban layouts with no good reason to walk anywhere and lots of parking probably contribute to heart disease, remember that pre-1958 city buildings have massive lead paint problems and pre-1979 building have minor lead paint problems. Only post-1979 buildings don't have lead paint issues.

Cakelove in Shirlington is also opening today, I believe! Check out their website--the pop up is no longer soliciting applications but now announcing that they are open.

The National Building Museum hosts a panel discussion titled Can the Suburbs Kill You?

Three guesses as to what the panel decides the answer to that question is, and the first two don't count.

Good thing nobody's ever been killed in a city.

I wish the Dogfish Head Alehouse wasn't out in the 'burbs.
