Go Home Already: Smackdown

>> Via Mid-Atlantic Art News, nearly every one on the Washington Post arts staff has been slammed over last Thursday's article on art in the White House Green Room. The Seattle Post-Intellgencer blog calls Post writer Jacqueline Trescott's race labeling of Jacob Lawrence as "the greatest African-American artist of the 20th century" a "disgrace," the staff photographer inept, and most hilariously, Blake Gopnik, who gets skewered though he wasn't even involved with the article, "Jaunty, arrogant and uninformed, [and] easily the worst art critic at a major newspaper in the country." Ouch.

If ever there was a day to feature the insanity of the Whitman Condo blog on dcist, today is that day. It is the most insane thing I've ever read that wasn't written on a wall smeared in poop.

Blake Gopnik is a tool, but it is unfair to slam him for an article where he wasn't the critic. Jaqueline Trescott is usually better than this.

Blake Gopnik makes living in DC palatable. He's only "crime" is not sucking up to DC enough. Which makes him a hero in my book.

Thank you DCist for sharing the Capitolist. Now I have concrete evidence to justify my statements to out-of-towners that Hill interns are uniformly retarded.

That Seattle Post-Intelligencer blog has this comment, Posted by unregistered user at 9/27/07 10:26 a.m.

"That is a particularly odd comment, in that Jackie Trescott is herself African-American."

That is my recollection as well.

Anybody out there more familiar with Ms. Trescott?

Certainly SPI blogger Regina Hackett is unfamiliar with both J. Trescott and Jacob Lawrence.

Why this art tizzy is stupid: Regina Hacket can assume her readers know who Jacob Lawrence is. Jacqueline Trescott can't.
