City Trashcans Become Voting Rights Metaphors

Several people have sent us their photos after spotting municipal trash cans around town with signs affixed to them that read: "DC BALLOT BOX: Your vote goes here." We don't know who was responsible for this guerrilla marketing campaign, but obviously, we approve of the message. Thankfully, they appear to have been affixed with easy to remove masking tape, so as not to spark the flames of indignation that go along with wheat paste.
The photo above, courtesy Rachel at Project Beltway, was taken at the corner of U and 13th streets.
More photos after the jump.

Prince of Petworth spotted this one on 14th Street NW in Columbia Heights, and said he had seen several others in the neighborhood, including to the north in Petworth.

Flickr user voteprime saw this one a few days back, also on U Street.

i think this is a GREAT idea to raise consciousness regarding this issue. visitors, especially, need to be aware of our plight. while the new license plates is a wonderful idea, many people don't read them. but everyone would notice these notices on garbage bins.
Excellent idea - and bonus for not being destructive in the process and pissing people off.
Yeah, that will convince them...
How about this, have Del. Holmes-Norton introduce a constitutional amendment (not some BS bill) to give DC as well as PR, Guam, etc full representation in the House and Senate. Remember, residents of Puerto Rico are US Citizens just like we are (and don't give me the taxation BS because as has been pointed out on this board too many times DC has a far better tax and funding system than any US territory) and should be entitled to the same basic civil rights.
Or we can be little children and decorate license plates and trash cans.
It's a bit lame. Our votes do matter. Local elections as well as presidential. We don't vote for a senator or representative so we aren't really throwing a vote away, right?
I hope these are attached with wheat paste, there are no more than 4 per intersection/block, and, most importantly, they will be removed after we get voting rights.
I'm not so sure they are statements about voting rights for DC, but pointing out the gross ineptitude of most of the local pols *cough*Barry*cough* whose neglect led to things like the water mains not being replaced or the massive bonuses or...
Has anyone else noticed that the Columbia Heights one is partially covering a Borf tag?
jim - borf is dead. the bathroom wall in staccato claimed so.
Excellent idea! Can we make it official?
