Why Does the Pants Judge Still Have His Job?

2007_1010_pants%282%29.jpgJust when we has stopped thinking about Judge Roy Pearson and his humiliating $54 million pants law suit for a second, the Examiner steps forward to ask the most important question of all: Why on Earth is Pearson still collecting a paycheck?

At the beginning of August, the panel that will ultimately decide Pearson's fate sent the beleaguered judge a letter letting him know his job was in jeopardy, but stopped short of actually firing him. At the time, they indicated they would make a final decision in about a week. That was two months ago.

Scott McCabe at the Examiner says the the panel still needs to hold a meeting to give Pearson one last chance to argue his case for keeping his job, which pays him $100,000 a year and would last for a 10-year term should he be reappointed. If such a hearing has even been scheduled, officials are refusing to reveal the date to reporters.

Isn't it time to call shenanigans on these guys? We know it's difficult to fire a judge, but what's the hold up with even holding the necessary hearing?

Removing a Federal judge is slightly less awkward and painful than removing a hemmorhoid by way of one's left ear. Treason? Bribery? High crimes and misdemeanors? Your job is still secure unless you're impeached. Even if you're declared legally insane, you're judgeship is still secure.

Anyone have Mona Shaw's phone number? I'd be willing to provide the hammer.

he is not a federal judge--he is an administrative law judge.

I hope they ask the Judge-in-Exile about his previous $60 million civil lawsuit in D.C. Superior Court against the developers of Fort Lincoln New Town, filed on August 8, 2002.

Given the need for judicial temperament and all that, it really doesn't pay for judges to have, um, an unusually litigious history

Can the panel be fired as well? They seem like a bunch of jokers, and they're obviously not taking care of the one visible responsibility they have.

Isn't it true though that the pants judge is a guy who handles parking tickets? When I contested a parking ticket an administrative law judge handled my case.

Fatkidspecial: They have to be careful with Judge Roy. They can't give him the slightest excuse to sue. He has cost DC more than enough in court time and expenses already.

Can you be fired for being a moron? And not only being a moron, but being a moron in your own field?

Not sure if this double posted, but if it did, I spelled my own name wrong the first time! Smooth.

Why does this douchebag still have his job? Look around, this is Washington, DC!

licht makes a very good point. who knows what crazy lawsuits he might come up with should he be fired. still . . . that being said . . . i am so sick of seeing his name in headlines. how is he not completely ashamed of himself?!?

Sommer, keep your pants on as I am sure they will not drop this one!

The difficulty of firing people is what has turned DC Government into a total wasteland. I'm as pro-union and liberal as they come but DC needs some serious house cleaning. Unfortunately it's too the point where the best option would be to fire everyone except for the newest appointees and make them reapply for their jobs.

Watchmen: The self-righteous are beyond shame or guilt. Since ridicule is a form or shaming, the thousands of jokes we've all made about this guy will not keep him from bringing suit once again. I'm no doctor, but I suspect this gent needs medical help, and badly.
