Say Goodbye to Pants Judge Roy Pearson

2007_1031_pearson.jpgIt's been a long, frustrating, even humiliating journey together for tax paying D.C. residents, and a man named Roy Pearson. Yesterday, it all finally came to an end, so we thought it only fitting that we should pay tribute to the former administrative law judge who, through suing his dry cleaners first for $65 million over a lost pair of pants, then later $54 million, succeeded in driving international attention to D.C.'s legal system -- and not in a good way.

As we put a bow on this epic legal debacle, which led to Pearson both losing his case and his job, as well as the shuttering of Custom Cleaners, we have to wonder, Cui Bono? Who, if anyone, benefited from Pearson's crazy antics? Flipping through our previous posts and traffic statistics, we have to admit, it's us! The Pants Suit was a big winner with fans of dumb stories on the Internet, which means we honestly can't say Roy Pearson never did anything for us. So thanks, Roy. Thanks for the memories. And all the opportunities to find new and exciting images of pants to post alongside our recaps. That was fun, too.

Will this really be the last we hear of Roy Pearson? We'd love to think so, though that certainly seems unlikely. The Post story indicates that the judicial panel that gave him the boot yesterday was careful to come up with a bunch of other reasons to fire him besides the pants case, but surely we have to expect he'll file a wrongful termination suit -- not to mention that looming appeal of the original case.

We hope you'll enjoy a trip down Pants Memory Lane as much as we did:

good riddance. oh roy, please stay gone

I guess next week we can expect a new Roy Pearson update when he sues DCist for lost wages and unpaid royalties.....sigh

I think Roy Pearson should hang out his shingle as a mercenary lawsuit filer for anyone who has a problem too big to solve any other way. Hell, he'd only have to win a big one like the McDonald's coffee lawsuit and he'd be set for life!

He could be a one-man legal A-Team!

If the Pantsless Judge disputes the Commission's decision, we haven't seen the last of his famous briefs.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think this story is asking for the broadway musical treatment? I mean, look at that picture, they're practically dancing already. Is Danny Glover busy? Or better yet, Carl Weathers?

Something along the lines of that great SNL skit with Susan Lucci, "All My Luggage."

Hmmm..looks like Roy has been taken to the cleaners!! Boy Voyage!

timtheviking2, THAT is a musical I'd love to see... but wait, then the producers would have to pay Roy... Hmm, but not the musical that I put on in my HEAD...
