About Tonight

2007_1003_abouttonight.jpg>> Looking to practice your Spanish comprehension? The Permanent Mission of Guatemala to the OAS is hosting an interesting free movie screening tonight at the Art Museum of the Americas -- but be warned, the film does not have English subtitles. Donde Acaban Los Caminos is based on the autobiographical novel by Mario Monteforte Toledo, about a young man who arrives in San Pedro La Laguna during the military dictatorship in the first decades of the 20th century. 6:30 p.m., RSVP to ggross (at) oas.org or by phone at (202) 458-3752.

>> There's not a ton to recommend going on tonight at any of the rock clubs, so Rock and Roll Hotel is trying to lure you out with the promise of fun free movies in an unusual venue. It's a John Cusack two-fer in the downstairs main room, with '80s camp classic Better Off Dead and '90s pop culture favorite Grosse Pointe Blank, bar opens at 8 p.m., movies get going not too long after that.

>> Kinky Friedman! The Independent Texan himself will read from You Can Lead a Politician to Water, But You Can't Make Him Think: Ten Commandments for Texas Politics. at Olsson's Penn Quarter, 7 p.m. Too bad they probably won't let him smoke a cigar while he reads.

>> The Handsome Grandson (and three stars alum), aka rapper Flex Mathews is at Velvet Lounge tonight, with house purveyors Knee Deep. Seems like a weird combo -- is there some other Knee Deep we don't know about?
