Following up on Friday's entry about a gay couple who was kicked out of the Rite Aid at 13th and U Streets NW, the New Gay is organizing a hug-in set to take place at the store tomorrow night at 7 p.m., just before the annual 17th Street High Heel Race. If you plan to go, be sure to pledge your attendance via evite.
The New Gay asks two things for everyone participating in the hug-in. First, when you get to the evite, be sure to click on the link that says "Click here if you are not: your_email_address_here@thenewgay.net" (You may need to click the "Change Your Reply" button first.) and enter your name and email address. Second, don't tip off Rite Aid about the event. If you're worried about going solo, hug-in organizers can pair you up with someone.
A pre-hug-in happy hour is also planned for 6 p.m. at nearby Nellie's Sports Bar.

Fortunately Rite Aid is unaware of the existence of the Internet.
It's like a series of tubes, right?
Good planning whoever decided to have happy hour in advance! If this works out we could be looking at something a lot more ground-breaking than a hug-in. Maybe someone should call rite aid and tell them to have the key to the love case ready.
I will be parked by the magnums, in case the hug goes beyond my five-second limit for nonarousal.
Oh how I enjoy embracing a nice queer gentleman on a crisp fall afternoon.
I'm all for it, but couldn't they have picked a day when there weren't 10,000 other events going on in the gay community? On a normal day I'd have no trouble hopping over there after work, but I don't see it happening tonight.
The action plan for tonight's Hug-In has been formulated and sent to RSVPed participants. If you didn't receive the email via Evite, then you are not RSVPed. Please do so before 4:30 PM, when the final action plan will be posted.
Pleadge your attendance via the evite.
**BTW, we picked tonight because we figured people would be already out and about, and it would be easy enough to take an hour out of your schedule for a hug on your way to the HHR or other holiday celebrations. **
