Reader, Meet Author
MONDAY:
We will never understand why some people dislike Garrison Keillor. Personally we enjoy his folksy manner and dry sense of humor, even if A Prairie Home Companion is at times a bit hokey. Keillor will be at GW's Lisner Auditorium to read from and discuss his latest book Pontoon: A Novel of Lake Wobegon. Books will be sold by Olsson's. 7 p.m.
Psychotherapist and author Amy Bloom will be at Politics and Prose to read from Away, her latest novel. 7 p.m.
TUESDAY:
Cathy Wilkerson will be at Busboys and Poets in D.C. to sign and discuss her new book, Flying Close to the Sun: My Life and Times As a Weatherman. "Weatherman" is actually code for terrorist. The things you learn on Monday mornings. 6 p.m.
Apparently life is similar to a lot of things. A box of chocolates. A board game. But now Garry Kasparov comes along to blow everyone's minds with How Life Imitates Chess. He'll be at Politics and Prose with more information. 7 p.m.
WEDNESDAY:
Two words: Nick Hornby. He'll be at Olsson's in the Penn Quarter to promote his newest book, Slam. We admit the plot sounds like something from an afterschool special, but Hornby is a great guy and writer, so we'll give him the benefit of doubt. 7 p.m.
Andrea Barrett will be at Politics and Prose to read from her latest novel, The Air We Breathe, a look at the lives of the sick and their caregivers during World War I. 7 p.m.
THURSDAY:
Margy Burns Knight will be at the Busboys and Poets in Arlington to discuss her book Africa Is Not A Country. Sadly, there are people out there reading this who will say "Really?" 6 p.m.
Pulitzer Prize-winner Pat Oliphant's political cartoons lampooning Bush are the highlight of the new collection Leadership. He'll be at Politics and Prose to discuss his particular type of "confrontational art." 7 p.m.
FRIDAY:
Property author Valerie Martin will be at Politics and Prose to read from her latest, Trespass. Maybe her new novel is the result of what happens when you get into the last book without permission. 7 p.m.
SATURDAY:
If you believe the "soccer mom" vote influenced Clinton's re-election, Mark J. Penn will be at Politics and Prose to discuss Microtrends, which analyzes 70 similar trends. 6 p.m.
