Toronto Soccer Fans: We Salute You

We love this video of Toronto FC fans heading to the game on Metro from YouTube. Despite their crushing defeat at the hands of D.C. United Saturday night, the visiting fans showed a lot of moxie. As the DCenters note, boisterous TFC fans came en masse to support their club:

TFC fans: The expansion club's supporters are the gem of the league and to see (we actually heard them first; we were in the ramp to the 400 level and they were marching into the stadium from lot 8) such a large contingent traveling with them was impressive. They eventually settled in somewhere near section 430 with a huge Canadian flag. They certainly enjoyed Carl Robinson's goal. It seemed that everyone of them had a scarf and a jersey.
Come back to D.C. anytime, TFC!

These guys were awesome - I appreciate good fans like that. I was in the section next to them in the 400s and they were shaking the bleachers. A little unnerving that far off the ground but I'm sure the stadium endured worse during years of Redskins games...

Thank god I wasn't in that car. Scream about your futbol team elsewhere. I want a nice peaceful metro ride.

What are they chanting in the middle? I don't know French but it sounded "keska voo shahntay."

Anybody able to translate?

"Qu-est ce que vous chanter?"

"Nous chantons le rouge allez!!"

translates literally to:

"What are you singing?"

"We're singing and the reds go!!"

It makes more sense in French. Glad they behaved!

What do you mean, get over myself? Chant and scream all you want at the game or even walking on the street, but don't bring that crap on the metro. How about next time I see you riding on the metro, I just start singing REALLY loud while you're trying to read?

Actually, it means "We're singing 'Go Reds'!" That style of back & forth singing is a french canadian tradition, goodness knows how it caught on in Toronto.

Glad that our guys did us proud w/o any ruckus as apparantly happened in NYC a while back. As a season-ticket holder for TFC it's always great to get that sort of feedback and I would recommend that if anyone is in Toronto next season to come out and try to get seats (easier said than done). There's usually a small contingent of travelling supporters - Columbus, New York and Chicago were well represented this year.

I heard that because of this outburst Councilman Graham is suggesting that the city close down the Metro train system.

Guest #2 - you suck. Looks like most people on the train enjoyed it. It was not disrespectful at all.

This is MUCH better than those kids who walk around with the piece of paper saying they need money for god knows what.

We all know you're scamming.

it was as disrespectful as anyone who comes on the metro making a ton of noise....not everyone wants to hear it....there are places for that, but that doesn't include the metro, a bus or anywhere a person cannot easily get away from it

and you can't say everyone seems like they're having fun...all you see are the people singing

i'm a sports fan and i'm all for being into your team, but c'mon...if you want to be disrespectful, move to philly

The TFC ultras are great and it was awesome so many made the trip. But just in case any of you were wondering, the DC fans are still the best in MLS.

Gee and I wonder why people think that District Residents are boring..

GOD. AM I TAKING CRAZY PILLS?!?!?!?!? This has nothing to do with boring. It has to do with being respectful to the people around you. I guarantee that people in other, less boring cities would feel the same. Ever hear the saying "Don't tread on me?"

Come on, you know all they are chanting in French is "Yay yay yay, Our Canadian Dollar hit parity today!".

All jokes aside, Canadians- feel free to roam on metro and chant. I would've enjoyed that ride with such energy.

Thanks for the link to our blog. Toronto fans are great, but I have to agree rninja that DC fans are still the best. No question the Screaming Eagles, Barra Brava and La Norte have to step up their game to prove it definitively though.
