Last week was a busy one when it comes to good comments, with thoughtful and funny ones about the Navy Yard Metro, Columbia Heights Day's existence, avatars, and more.
And speaking of avatars, why not set up your own? Maybe you can be like monkeyrotica, who was the talk of DCist's commentariat — what's his going to be? Something profane? Something phallic? Mr. Monkey's response was this:
For an avatar, I was about to go for a goatse-cum-tubgirl motif, but try crowbarring that into 100x100 pixels. My eyesight's bad enough as it is, what with all the self abuse and backalley Lasik treatments.

The post about renaming the Navy Yard Metro had some funny responses. Reid's take:
I say we wait until Eastern Motors gets the naming rights for the stadium and then make them pay for the signage change to Navy Yard-Your Job's Your Credit Field Station.
rj added:
...Instead of word why not symbols next to the name of the stop:
Navy Yard- A Baseball
Gallery Place-Basketball/Hockystick
Stadium Armory-Soccer ball
Landover- Football or a diminutive power hunger man pick pocketing you while spending the money on overprice over the hill talent.
After the jump, gentrification comment shenanigans, anti-Muslim posters at GW, and good ideas all around.

Some commenters on last Monday's GHA hadn't heard about the less-than-well-advertised Columbia Heights Day.

Rusty (and his Laura Sessions Stepp avatar, which deserves a prize) is not sold on the Redskins receivers:
Depleted receiver corps? You have Reche "Cocaine Eyes" Caldwell. You guys will be fine.

miss bee is not fond of WMATA's energy efficiency:
they don't have individual light switches? that's the stupidest thing i have EVER heard.
i'm not calling you a liar... but who doesn't put a light switch in a room?

A guest was amused by the comment thread to Ryan's post
What, a gentrification thread and only 14 comments? Come on, DCist readers, you can do better than that.

As for why Judge "Pants" Peterson hasn't been fired yet, fatkidspecial makes a good point:
Can the panel be fired as well? They seem like a bunch of jokers, and they're obviously not taking care of the one visible responsibility they have.
Mike Licht had a good response:
Fatkidspecial: They have to be careful with Judge Roy. They can't give him the slightest excuse to sue. He has cost DC more than enough in court time and expenses already.

The post about about the apparently insufficiently satirical anti-Muslim posters generated some good discussion, and some funny points. Hillman (among others) is a fan of dreamy Iraq Veteran Against the War Adam Kokesh, who was one of the poster putter uppers at GW:
...But, still, I'd Free his Mumia.
Meeg was surprised others didn't get the joke:
The poster said that you can recognize a muslim because they have laser eyes and a peg leg for smuggling babies/heroin!
Granted the fact that Islamo-fascist Awareness Week is a real thing means that there are layers of reality and satire here, but I anyone who didn't realize that this was satire is pretty dense.
Good on these students for exposing the racist, xenophobic nature of "Islamo-fascist Awareness Week"!
While a guest disagrees with Meeg:
Meeg - please explain just how "Islamo-facist Awareness Week" is of a "racist" and "xenophobic" nature, esp. considering the fact that Islam is not a race. Please provide a couple of facts (preferably verifiable) to back up your conclusory statement. And no, opposing Islamic fundamentalism is not per se evidence of xenophobia (no more so than protesting against Pro-Lifers is evidence, without more, of Christophobia or a pro-infanticide stance).
My point: Whether left or right, labeling people/groups as [insert "ist" term here] is rather odious (and intellectually lazy), at least without proper evidence to support such a claim.

bustedtees2 had something to say about the new ClearChannel Metrobus shelters.
Unfortunately, a bit of a wasted opportunity. Why not have the design of the shelters reflect the route or the location? It could have been a great placemaking/waymaking exercise. Now, it's just an exercise in cheap advertising.

And finally, pretty much everyone agreed with Mark Plotkin's DC voting rights question, which got him kicked out the White House. One guest gave Mayor Fenty's response "respect ++"
