Re: the Harris Teeter article. While Reynolds who is quoted in the article is an ANC Commissioner, the Adams Morgan ANC is not involved in this fight and in fact settled it's alcohol-related differences with the proposed store more than a year ago.
Are you kidding me?! Where does this guy live? I want to protest at his house. Again, are you KIDDING ME?!?! We have the one ridiculously crappy Safeway in the area, which I should note miraculously survived without a Grahaming after a recent shooting, and this fool wants to stop Harris Teeter??? Anybody that votes for this moron again is an imbecile.
"Neighborhood" associations suck.
Every time I walk by the Verizon Center, I keep expecting a blimp with telescreens to float by blaring, "A new life awaits you in the Off-World colonies! The chance to begin again in a golden land of opportunity and adventure!" Then a stripper in a seethrough raincoat gets shot in the back. Instead, I have to make do with Hooters girls in booty shorts Ah, Bartleby! Ah, humanity!
Has there been any news on the Harris Teeter that's supposed to be going up in Eastern Market? All we have in the area is a crappy Safeway as well.
Re: Harris Teeter and alcohol--I grew up surrounded by these stores, and they've got an amazing beer and wine selection--certainly one to trump any liquor store in Adams Morgan or surrounding neighborhoods.
You can email the Reed-Cooke Neighborhood association at rcna@reedcooke.org to tell them to eff off; their monthly meeting takes place Tuesday the 13th at King Emmanuel (Ontario and Kalorama) at 7:30. Remind 'em we're capitalists and believe in a free market economy!
The Teeter in Pentagon Row has a decent beer selection, but nothing to write home about. Although they do carry Delerium Tremens and some oddball Belgian lambics, it's the usual five rows of Bud, five rows of Corona, a sixpack of Redhook, etc.
