Photo of the Day: November 12, 2007

Flickr user polytropos had a number of excellent photos from down at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial over the weekend. With today being Veterans Day, and just two days shy of the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the Memorial, there was no doubt today's photo would come from that set. It was this black and white shot, not of the wall itself, but of the directory of names, in black and white with a bright glow illuminating the book, that really struck us.

One February in a snow storm I stumbled upon (I can never find it when I am *looking* for it) the memorial alone and in silence.
I recommend... when it is snowing...and there will be no tired, hot, unaffected children, no tourists, happen upon the wall without the cacophany and with the b/w contrast.
Doesn't matter how you feel about war, vietnam, architecture, art, washington, snow, cold, really, it doesn't matter.
Go.
Um, Veterans Day was yesterday.
Sorry. "With today being Veterans Day (observed)..."
and I spelled 'cacophony' wrong... sorry too...
I'm just bitter that I didn't get today off, whereas most people I know who did are thinking today's the holiday and not the freebie day off that it truly is.
