What's That You Say?

VW busThanks to the holiday, What's That You Say?, our roundup of the best comments, is a day late. But keep your comments coming, and don't forget to register if you haven't. You may already be a winner of the not-really-prestigious weekly avatar and username contests!

Comment of the Week:

jen209 on D.C. being named only the 8th gayest city in the country:

So maybe we ARE the gayest, it's just that all of our gays have commitment issues.

------

A close runner-up: Jeffrey has something to share about the WJLA affair story:

Oh noes! Does this mean it's time to end my oh-so-wrong-but-so-very-very-right affair with Doug Hill? The forecast calls for heartbreak with an 80% chance of break-up sex.

After the jump, Waffle Shop, The Police (the band), and awful coal jokes.

monkeyrotica with a driver's license? I wonder what kind of car he has. Probably one of those three-wheeled Urkel numbers. Or a Duck.

I have no problem with this so long as I can still hack the chip to give me unlimited free Metro rides and lets me enter God mode in Quake Arena.

This should also come with a +1 broadsword and a Helm of Summoning that gives my paladin a +2 IQ, because he really needs the IQ. After that dwarf ambush, his brain hasn't been the same since.

while bob has a good question about the SmarTrip drivers licenses:

My SmartTrip cards usually last approximately a year. In fact, I just replaced mine a week or two ago. Will this one be more heavy duty or will it quickly become useless?

------

loganmo isn't a fan of DC cabbies

Since everyone knows the majority of DC cab riders are unemployeed wards of the state, this makes perfect sense to me-they don't really ahve anything better to do, right?

------

indiecognition breaks out the coal groaners in response to the train derailment:

Ok, those are all the coal jokes I'm able to furnace right now. Wonder if I came up hot or coaled with those...I think they were at least a bithumorous.

and adds

Warning: my ethanol jokes are even cornier.

hungeegirl on The Police:

i LOVE the police. they are by far, my favorite band of all time. however, i did not go to the verizon center show last night (This would shock any person who knows me even remotely) because i went to see their show at madison square garden on august 3rd and it was subpar. all the police songs were slowed down, i.e. sting-a-fied. they also changed the key of many, many songs, probably because gordo can't sing that high anymore. a lot of the rearrangements in general stunk. i had been waiting my whole life to see the police (i'm only 25) and i expected to be wowed, and i was definitely let down.

maybe the show last night at the verizon center was better. but i'm guessing the songs were still sting-a-fied.

The GW swastika incidents generated a lot of comments, but reid's was our fave:

Yikes. First GW Muslim students put up anti-Muslim posters in a misguided attempt at parodying anti-Muslim posters. Now a Jewish student is caught drawing swastikas on her own door.

Kids these days are so meta.

Oh and stupid, tactless, and hopelessly irony-addled.

------

monkeyrotica's not sold on neighborhood retail:

It's all well and good to have a neighborhood wish list of stores you want. But eventually you have to come back to Planet Earth where small hardware stores are closing left and right, and independent bookstores are going the way of shoefitting fluoroscopes, spats, and human dignity. Because at current property and business tax rates, the only businesses that remain economically viable are national chains, expense account boutique restaurants, chichi furniture places, and designer clothes joints, and even some of those are struggling.

Ice cream parlor? WTF? How about a blacksmith while we're at it? Because damned if my old timey pennyfarthing didn't get a flat on the way to the box social, so hows I supposed to get there with an unshod clydesdale? And the countess had just gotten a fresh shipment of opium and raw ether, too! Aw, rasberries!

------

eugene12 is not too sure about the new ticketing process

After the online system did not recognize that I had paid a $100 ticket, I contested this through the mail and received no reply after six months. When I contacted the office, they told me that I would need to resubmit my appeal, but that I should have come in-person. My ticket raised to two hundred dollars because it was over 30 days old and after not receiving another response, I went ahead and paid it. That's the story of my $100 ticket which turned into $300 fiasco. Hope their 'mail-in' service improves if they do plan to convert it to this new process.

Spookiness breaks down the arguments about Childe Harold and Waffle Shop:

Interesting posting.

People b*tch and moan about greedy developers and landlords closing down one joint, yet another "greedy" developer offers to completely dismantle, restore, and relocate piece-by-piece a "historic" greasy spoon in order to appease historic preservationists.

Can't win with this crowd.

Maybe the Childe Harolde can set up in the relocated greasy-spoon, and get a below-market subsidized lease from Doug Jemal?

-----

And this week's best commenter name and avatar both go to qbert. Plus his "Jesus Fucking Christ" response on the Weekly Feed was pretty funny.

and a close second: Mudda Flubba with the weird kangaroo diagram avatar.

Keep those comments coming!

Sweet. Now how can I edit my user name so it has a capital Q and doesn't look like Gbert?

I can't, can I?

Sigh.

You can definitely edit your username. Just click on "edit" at the top left corner next to "View Profile."

That lets me edit everything but my user name.

That's ok. It's my fault. The lowercase "q" is just my cross to bear.

Shoefitting fluoroscopes? Somebody's been watching too much Modern Marvels.

There should be a monkeyerotica comment of the week.
