Second Chinese Food Deliveryman Killed

2007_1114_chinesefoodkillings.jpg

The Post is reporting that a Chinese food deliveryman was shot and killed in Southeast over the weekend, the second such killing in recent months. Hong Zhi Wang, 29, was delivering food at 10:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1300 block of Barnaby Terrace when he was shot in the neck.

The latest killing came less than three months after another deliveryman from an Asian restaurant was robbed and murdered. Ling Mao, 36, was found fatally shot on Sept. 1 at Savannah Street and Ridgecrest Court SE. A suspect has been arrested in that case.

Members of the MPD's Asian Liaison Unit are expressing concern that this could be a sign that food delivery drivers are being targeted by criminals. Police are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction of this most recent killing.

as if that job isn't hard and undersupported enough. now they need to worry about this?

Deliverymen and women are always worried about this. Which is why certain "dwellings" are "out of our delivery area." Ask anyone who lived in Columbia Heights or on Georgia Avenue circa 1990.

Countdown to the inevitable lawsuit against these racist Asians for refusing to deliver to particular neighborhoods. Makes me wistful for when the mafia ran the narcotics, gambling, and prostitution rackets in DC back in the '40s and '50s. The cops never bothered them because they only killed their own.

For most of my life I've lived in neighborhoods where the delivery guys would either not come at all or would make you come out to the car.

I never bitched about this (amazingly) because I knew what crappy jobs they had and I knew me not being able to get a double sausage pizza wasn't worth one of these poor guys getting shot.

As Monkey pointed out, it's only a matter of time before someone sues and claims racial profiling when drivers refuse to deliver to high crime areas. Which is a shame, as that defeatist victim mentality is one of the things making these very neighborhoods high crime to begin with.

Seriously! What is with these poor people expecting to have a pizza delivered?!? If they want a pizza delivered, why don't they move to a better neighborhood? Or better yet, why don't the make their own damn pizza?!? It is this type of lazy thinking that has gotten them in this position in the first place.

FYI, I just deleted the last for comment for crossing the racism line.

Sommer, what exactly is the racism line on DCist. I'd like to take a look at it..or was that your own defined racism line.

And what about the postmenopausal women line that I keep crossing? I need this information for my autobiography "Memoirs of a Plagiarist, Volume I: My Life in the Bush of Postmenopausal Oscar-winning Actresses." Please contact me ASAP as Michael Bay is already attached to direct.

You scab, don't sell your script at a time like this. If TomKat sign on to play some role then you've got my $10.

DixieCarter? Where do you get off telling me I don't deserve food from a restaurant b/c I live in the hood? I can take Hillman's comment, b/c those are the rules I play by. But I'm disgusted by your ignorant comment. I'm lazy because I live in Ward 8? OR am I lazy b/c I have a master's degree in Architecture but am considered low income b/c my career isn't as high paying as yours and can't afford to buy a home in this city unless it's in the hood? My neighborhood may be scary for some, but I live there and it's my home. If I call a place and they won't deliver b/c they fear for their drivers, I'll order from some where else, but what kind of ignorant person tells me I don't deserve delivery food or much less that I'm lazy for buying a home in a transitional neighborhood. What a crock of shit.

There's a Hebrew Cemetary in Congress Heights? Who knew.

Next thing you'll tell me is that neighborhoods with "long term residents" have not always and forever been that way.

And U.A., I could be wrong, but I think she was being facetious.

I assumed DixieCarter's comments were tongue-in-cheek.

Get a grip UA, I was clearly joking.

my apologies...the pizza delivery man wouldn't deliver our lunch at work today either..guess i'm on edge.
