Former Gov. Jim Gilmore Officially Running for Senate
The Associated Press is reporting that former Va. Gov. Jim Gilmore has officially announced he is a candidate for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. John Warner. Gilmore announced his candidacy by posting a video to YouTube.
The formal announcement sets up Gilmore as the presumed Republican nominee for the seat, as the other leading candidate, Rep. Tom Davis (Va.-R), announced last month that he would not seek the seat.
Gilmore will face another former governor, the extremely popular Democrat Mark Warner. In a Washington Post poll at the beginning of October, Mark Warner had a 30 point lead over Gilmore among likely voters. Another poll commissioned by WJLA/ABC7 gave Warner a 28 point lead over Gilmore.

Gilmore will need one issue to run on like last time. Immigration reform perhaps?
Considering the perceived failure that was Gilmore's administration, especially with the whole "No car tax" bullsh*t, and the perceived success of Warner's administration, I'd like to think that this would be an easy call. But then again, Gilmore is one of those Republicans who will always pander to the lowest base instinct of people's fears.
Let the countdown to the ass-wuppin' commence.
Oh and can we stop it with the YouTube announcement now before it becomes cliche (if it hasn't already). We get it. You're with it. You get the technology. You identify with the younger generation, etc. blah blah blah.
This man is one dull and uninspiring politician. But, given VA politics, I'm sure he can find something meanspirited and hateful to run on. How about particularly brown-skinned illegal immigrants coming to VA specifically to have man to man butt sex whilst fighting against forced prayer in school? You know, the real issues. While NOVA traffic gets even worse, the rest of VA slides into cultural irrelevancy, and other more progressive states attract the bright minds and the new jobs.
Why?
