Nationals sign in the new stadium

Though opening day is still a whole winter away, looking at Scott Ableman's photos of the Nats' stadium near completion makes our mouths water for peanuts, hot dogs, and beer. If all goes as planned, come late March we'll be enjoying dogs and beer in what Thomas Boswell called "A Thing of Beauty."

Yeah they are making some major progress, and they just put in the new grass for the field!

March can't come fast enough!

Umm...no. Their first home game is scheduled against the Marlins on April 7. Accuracy's a bear.

According to the aforementioned Washington Post:

"Baseball will be played for the first time at Washington's new stadium March 29, when the Nationals host the Baltimore Orioles in an exhibition game."

Glass houses, Crosstown Traffic?

Thanks, Stavros. According to WTOP:

"The Nats will play the Orioles in an exhibition game Saturday, March 29 of 2008.

No single tickets will be sold for the exhibition game.

The free tickets for that game will be distributed to SEASON TICKETHOLDERS, CONSTRUCTION WORKERS WHO BUILT THE STADIUM IN SOUTHWEST and D.C. CHILDREN"

My guess is that 99% of us on DCist are none of the above. Better know someone or pay a scalper if you're going to see 'em play in March.
