Anti-Gay Group to Show Folsom Fair Film at Press Club
The anti-gay, right wing group Americans for Truth About Homosexuality (AFTAH) will present "raw and unedited" footage shot at this year's Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco at the National Press Club at 1 p.m. tomorrow. AFTAH president Peter LaBarbera specifically targets Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi with this conference, urging her "to do the right thing by condemning the public nudity and perversions — and blatant anti-Christian bigotry — that occurred in her Congressional District at the 'Folsom Street Fair' in San Francisco September 30."
LaBarbera lists in an open letter to Speaker Pelosi the offenses included in the video: public sex acts including oral sex and masturbation between men (anal sex was not confirmed); whippings and floggings; master/slave relationships; and "anti-Christian bigotry," including the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and promotional posters depicting Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper with a leather fetish/sex toy twist. The posters were subject to another controversy from the Catholic League, which pressured the Miller Brewing Company to withdraw its sponsorship of the event.
This is clearly going to be the best opportunity all year to watch gay porno in public without ponying up for a membership at the Crew Club. Who's bringing drinks?

This is pretty funny. Have any of these guys been to Padre Island over spring break? Yup, no nudity or blatant anti-christian things going on there.
Side Bet: Who is the first member of AFTAH to be implicated in a gay sex scandal?
Damn it, they need to show this after work, not after lunch. How else am I supposed to get in my daily porn viewing?
And if they wanted anal sex at Folsom, they just need to check out anything from Treasure Island Media (link completely NSFW).
I think the audience would be more fun to watch than the "Doc". I wonder what the over under is on the number of men inexcusable running to the bathroom during this film?
The irony of a bunch of Christian anti-gay bigots complaining about gay anti-Christian bigotry is almost painful.
it seems the more a politician or pundit talks about having 'family values' the more likely he is a pedophile, philanderer, or self-loathing closeted gay person. wonder what issues these organizers have....
Peter LaBarbera is an extremely fringe loon who's desperately seeking attention. This isnt gonna do it.
Also, not to split hairs, but how exactly is that image courtesy of Towleroad? It's an ad that's all over the net.
@jshuan: Point taken about the image being available all over, but it's courtesy Towleroad because that's where we got it from.
Outward bigotry towards Christians and the Christians are whiny crybabies.
Outward bigotry towards gays, blacks, Mexicans, etc and there's a protest led by the ACLU with an ensuing boycott.
Outward bigotry towards muslims and ... well ... there isn't any outward bigotry because we're afraid of the ensuing riots.
>This is clearly going to be the best opportunity all year to watch gay porno in public without ponying up for a membership at the Crew Club. Who's bringing drinks?
Brilliant!
They're whiny crybabies because dressing up as a nun is not anti-Christian bigotry. Neither is it anti-Christian bigotry to use a cultural landmark like daVinci's Last Supper. Newsflash: Rightwing fundamentalists don't own images of Christ. They don't get to tell the rest of us what to believe or how to talk about Christ or how to depict Christ.
Realy anti-Christian bigotry would be firing people because of they're Christian, or denying them the right to marry or adopt kids, or beating them up on the streets. Those things don't happen, because there is no real anti-Christian bigotry in this country.

"They don't get to tell the rest of us what to believe or how to talk about Christ or how to depict Christ."
Haha riiight. And using a political cartoon with Mohammad is somehow grounds for a riot?
Racism and bigotry is equal for ALL people.
Dudes blowing each other in the middle of the street is not okay.
Anti-Christian bigotry, on the other hand, is awesome!
It's sad to see all the Christian-bashing postings from these lost souls. Stop running from The Truth and give into belief in God.
"Haha riiight. And using a political cartoon with Mohammad is somehow grounds for a riot?"
1) Nobody here condones that moronic rioting or thinks it's acceptable. And nothing in my post had anything to do with that. But thanks for pointing out that the people who think that poster represents "anti-Christian bigotry" are as stupid as the people who think naming a teddy bear Mohammed is an insult to Islam.
2) So you think people with one particular set of religious beliefs should get to tell other people how to depict Christ? If a gay Christian writes a play depicting Christ as gay, you think that's anti-Christian? And that the views of other Christians should trump the views of the play's author?
Then where was the the one and only Rev. Jesse Jackson and the ACLU? Personally, I think the poster is disrespectful. Just like it would've been disrespectful if it was mocking ANY religion or ANY race. BUT it's your right as an American to do that.
Give me an honest answer here: what do you think would happen if they made the EXACT same poster only instead of it being for gay pride, it was for anti-crime and had 'thugged' out black people with guns ... or muslims in turbans with rocket launchers ... etc. Do you think there would be outrage? If so, for which religion/ethnicity would the outrage exist?
If you dont' think there's a double standard in America regarding race or religion, you're the stupid one.
Bottom line is....
There's a concerted effort amongst some 'Christians' to make everyday life considerably more difficult for millions of gay Americans. These 'Christians' try to do everything from make it hard for gays to get health insurance to deny us the right to marry the one we love.
To my knowledge, there's not a similar group of gay people trying to deny health care coverage or the rights of marriage to Christians.
End of story.
If it is, what's the big deal? First, this painting ain't part of Scripture. It's a painting by Da Vinci, who most people believe was gay.
And let's face it. Thirteen men, none of them particularly interested in the ladies. You make what deductions you want there...... Professions of love that 'passes all other love' between Christ and John (if I remember right).
And how is this disrespectful? These people are just standing or sitting there, albeit in mild leather gear, and one in drag (I'm assuming that's an homage to the androgynous nature of that particular figure in the original painting).
Turns out leather people can be Christian as well.
And let's not forget that not all leather people are gay. There's a thriving straight leather world out there as well.
And even if this were some sort of disrespectful poster, I'd have to say that it's literally inconsequential, when compared to what certain 'Christians' do to gay people on a daily basis in the US.
Given a choice, I'd take a mildly offbeat poster over being denied basic health care or watching those I love suffer in their old age because 'Christians' think it's their right to make things hard for them, even literally on their deathbed.

if they want to get really twisted, they should show some of the pictures of children assaulted by the heterosexual pedophiles after they were attacked. they could always do a re-cap on the BTK killer, and include some of his in-church photographs, but only if they want to give examples of real sacrilege. but wait, they would rather ignore the reality that priests, clergy members, and fundamentalist supported politicians (not to mention your all too average fundamentalist christian)are capable of child molestation and adulterous sexual indiscretion, and point their fingers at the gay community for consensual sexual acts between adults. or maybe they just get off on watching.... what an absurd group of hypocritical clowns.

It really ticks me off that the Antifags (sic) try to pick out the most outrageous events and represent them as everyday gay life. Perhaps, we should film the raunchiest parts of Mardi Gras and throw that back in their faces...
Then again, Fulsom Street Fair is not a gays only event. It is a pan-sexual event. That my dears is the truth of it, you will find straights and bi's there in abundance...
The fair is about fetishes, not just sexuality...

Are they wrong? Regardless of how they feel about a certain group of people, or whether this event was offensive to any particular religion, are you all saying that you condone and support public, adult masturbation in front of children?

This is not an effort to make everyday life difficult for gay Americans. And, even if it were, would you still support S&M acts taking place in front of children?
When these sorts of things happen in public, AND CERTAIN GROUPS DON'T CONDEMN THE ACTS, it makes certain people wonder if these types of things go on in the homes of those people.
To be more specific, if an event contains public sex acts occurring in front of children, and a Christian group sees that happening, and asks for it to be condemned -- yet, no one from the gay community will comdemn what took place (specifically, the sex acts in front of children), what do you think the appropriate response of the Christian group would be?

Why will you guys not condemn this event, regardless of your sexual orientation?

When lewd acts are performed within the Christian community, those acts are condemned. T.H. isn't a pastor anymore. Isn't the non-Christian community honorable enough to do the same, and condemn public sex acts in front of children, when it happens in their name?
GVL:
Please post only once. Even if it doesn't look like your post went through the first time, it did.
First, any kids there were accompanied by adults who were advised and well aware of the nature of the event. This fair is by-admission only. You have to pay to get in
One observer said that there were perhaps half a dozen kids there, total. And they had to be there with their parents. I'm not in a position to tell a parent that they can't take their kids to a street festival. Are you?
And, yes, the anti-gay movement in America most certainly makes life difficult for gays. How can you possibly say that attempts to deny gays marriage, health care, hospital visitation rights, etc., isn't making life more difficult for gay people?
Is that really your position? Really?
And, for the record, this street fair isn't endorsed or attended by most gay people. Roughly, say, 10 to 15 million gay Americans did not attend this fair.
So how do you justify targeting those folks in your bid to make their lives harder?
GVL:
Sexual abuse within the Christian community aren't always condemned.
Can you honestly say the Catholic Church didn't cover up child sexual abuse for decades?
And the most recent revelation that the Seventh Day Adventists have been doing the same thing doesn't really bode well for your argument either.
