Former Metrobus Driver Gets One Year in Jail
WJLA brings word that Victor Kolako, the former Metrobus driver who was convicted of striking and killing two pedestrians on February 14, has been sentenced to one year in jail.
Kolako was found guilty on two felony counts of negligent homicide in the Pennsylvania Ave. accident. The widower of one of the victims, Greg Schoenborn, has also filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against Metro in U.S. District Court.
The sentencing decision is potentially bad news for Metrobus driver Travis McDuffie, who hit and killed a 38-year-old Rockville man on Monday near the Twinbrook Metro station. The Post reported this morning that the victim, Tao Sun, was in a crosswalk when he was hit. McDuffie has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the results of routine drug and alcohol tests and the outcome of the police investigation. No charges against McDuffie have been filed so far.

Found this link in the comments of another WaPo article. It has video of the February deaths. Pretty scary stuff that this really could have happened to any pedestrian in the city.

Kill 2 people, get one year in jail? Wow, that's a big "fuck you" to the victims' families.
What about the MPD officer that struck and killed a pedestrian on Wisconsin and Idaho, NW? That pedestrian was in the crosswalk and had a car that stopped, but a cop car that apparently went around the stopped car and hit and killed the pedestrian.
Fenty & Co. are doing a big event at that crosswalk tomorrow morning targeting drivers who don't stop for pedestrians in the crosswalk. The press release mentioned the recent death. It failed to mention that it was an MPD driver that caused that death due to failure to follow the law.
1 year? Are you kidding me, 1 measly year for killing 2 people in a crosswalk? What the fuck is wrong with this world?
Opposed to your opinion, I would be breathing a sigh of relief if I was the latest negligent Metro bus driver to kill a pedestrian. He should only be looking at 6 months according to my math.

Victor Kolako was found guilty on two felony counts of negligent homicide after reaching a deal with prosecutors that prison time would not exceed three years. Kolako's lawyer is trying to get the sentenced reduced by a day so as to not affect his immigration status.
Fuck him! Run his ass over and send him in a box back wherever he came from.
1 year seems about right to me. I'm sure the driver is dealing with a lot of grief already, and it's not like he killed them intentionally. Don't get me wrong, the Metrobus drivers do need to improve their driving skills, but I also realize it's a difficult job. I can't imagine trying to manuever one of those gigantic vehicles down busy streets where cars and people are darting out from every direction, and I certainly wouldn't want to be slapped with a long prison sentence for something that was an accident (albeit a horrible one).
Disgusting.
