Overheard in D.C.: Documentary Film

Barrel HouseThe majority of Overheards in D.C. fall into only a few categories: funny sex stuff, dumb tourists and weird kids. There's the occasional amusing political thing, or some quip that somebody sent in because they think they or their friends are funny. But there are always those that make absolutely no sense unless you are knowledgeable about some extremely narrow area of trivia, such as say, documentaries about lost and possibly mythical Brazilian cities.

Quote of the Week

From two people who obviously work in the documentary film biz, on the street near 17th and M:

Woman 1: "Are you guys doing 'Lost City of Z'?"
Woman 2: "Yeah."
Woman 1: "Do you want that gay pirate guy?"

After the jump, sexual frustration, war movies and shocking discoveries at restaurants.

Keep the overheards coming! overheardindc (at) gmail (dot) com

America, tops in pre-natal care once again.

In Dupont:

Very pregnant woman, to friend: "There are so many things I can't eat. It's all just really confusing."
Friend: "You should really just stay away from crack and cigarettes."
VPW: "Yeah, sushi seems pretty tame compared to that."

------

As James Brown said, say it sometimes!

Two African American men in their late 50s on a DC Metrobus

Man 1: (shouts) "Are you black?"
Man 2: "Wha?!"
Man 1: "Are you proud?"
Man 2: (blank stare)
Man 1: "Are you black? Are you proud?"
Man 2: "Sometimes."

------

Quasimodo from the Disney movie, or the old silent one?

At Georgetown Library

Girl #1: "I just need to get laid! Like, seriously, I would sleep with Quasimodo right now!"
Girl #2: "Shut up! You're going to end up on Overheard in DC!"

------

"Dear Penthouse,
I never thought this would happen to me..."

At Z-Pizza, in Silver Spring on Friday evening:

12- to 14-year-old boy to his uncle/father: "So after her birthday party I got to spend the night at her house. But there were two other girls that stayed too, so her mom made me sleep in the basement by myself." (pause) "But there was a big screen TV all to myself, so I stayed up all night and watched Superbad like 3 times. It was pretty sweet."

What will they think of next, bars with food?

At the new Rocklands BBQ near VA Square in Arlington.

Two people in their mid-20s walk into Rocklands.

20-something guy to his friend: "Oooh, they have a bar." (They head to the bar, sit down and order beer and bbq.)

They finish their beers and food, and get up to leave when two people in their mid-forties walk in.

40-something guy to his friend: "Oooh, they have a bar." (They head to the bar, sit down, and order beer and bbq.)

------

Not at the Georgetown library apparently

21st and G st., GWU dorm hallway:

Mid 40s housekeeper talking on her cellphone: "Girl, he smacks you 'cause you look so good... he would pull your hair too if you ask him. Where can I find a man like that?"

------

Red Line to Moon, doors closing

Large group of teenage female tourists at Metro Center, 5 p.m. on Monday:

One of the group: "We're not going anywhere yet. Wait for this train to take off, first."

------

And Pluto Nash

On the Green line, a mid-20s male and female:

Guy: "I just can't watch any war movies...not Troy, nothing. Not after 300. They just don't compare."
Girl: "Oh?"
Guy: "Yeah. Oh, and Gladiator, the action in that was phenomenal."
Girl: "Gladiator?"
Guy: "Yeah, the one where the black guy lives 'til the end."
Girl: "Oh yeah."

I love the Barrel House!

No way- these are too good. My money's on monkeyerotica submitting them each week

>the one where the black guy lives

Now that's funny.

someone's been spending too much time hanging around NGS listening for quotes (not that that's a bad thing...there's enough crazy going on here every day to fill a book).

This is going back to the Barrel House / Whole Markets conversation a while back, but I noticed that BH does sell 24 oz beers...

No frottage? No Star Wars references? No jetpack monkeys with flails? Sorry, but I had nothing to do with any of these.

So, you guys get Girl #1's number?

-Quas.

hey monkeyrotica - i have a request: can you reference kim kardashian in a comment again? grazie!

I find it really hard to believe that the ones referencing "Overheard in DC" are legit. At the very least, they must've been submitted by a participant in the conversation. Probably the sole one who knew what Overheard in DC is.
