Our Pilgrim cousins to the north have been having all the wintry fun of late. While we sit here in the mid-Atlantic frantically wondering if we'll get snow instead of an annoying, ice-cold spritz, Boston gets about eight inches of commute-snarling precip. Why do they get all the snow AND all the good sports teams?

This weekend is our next chance at a winter coating, but again, we sit on the line of pure snow or freezing rain. As such, the National Weather Service is calling for a 60 percent of snow/sleet Saturday during the day, transitioning to a "wintry mix" that night and into Sunday. What's that mean? Unfortunately, probably a scant dose of slush; NWS predicts less than an inch of accumulation.

CapitalWeather.com thinks that the chance of snow is pretty low, and that most of the storm will be ice and/or rain. Coupled with stiff winds, this can spell disaster for trees and the power lines they overhang, as well as for the streets and sidewalks. Once the storm starts on Saturday, we hope you aren't driving around too much, as the roads will probably be a little hairy. Not that you need reminding, but it's a good idea to keep an eye on the sidewalks in front of your house. If you pre-salt them, it's a lot easier to clear them after the storm ends.

Expect this storm to pass through the region by midday Sunday, so you'll still have part of your weekend that isn't completely gross out. Travel safe if you need to go out and about, and don't be afraid to pretend you're in New England romping across the town common.
