Fire at Eisenhower Executive Office Building

2007_1219_eeobfire.jpg

CNN is reporting that the Eisenhower Executive Office Building is on fire. From the looks of it firefighters have already gotten the worst of the flames, which began as an electrical problem on the 3rd floor, under control, but a small amount of smoke is still coming out of the building. No injuries have been reported.

MORE, 10:09 a.m.: The fire reportedly began in an electrical closet adjacent to the Vice President's ceremonial office in the Eisenhower (which of course he never uses). The smoke has all but stopped coming out of the building now but it remains completely evacuated and likely will for the much of the rest of the day.

11:25 a.m.: A marine stationed in the building suffered a minor injury, according to the fire department. The fire is now totally under control.

I guess Cheney's sacrificial burnings are out of the bag...why else would the administration cover up his use of the ceremonial office?

Butseriouslyyouguys, I hope the building itself isn't damaged too badly...there's a lot of history to it, and it's mostly not as bad as the activity it's housed for the last 7 years.

The two leading theories I've heard are Cheney spontaneously combust just before Bush signed the energy bill, or the Devil came to collect his soul.

Sounds like someone's getting a little sloppy with the candles, pentagrams, and altar virgins. Hot tip: just because she says she's a virgin, doesn't make it so. Kids nowdays have a pretty broad definition of "virginity." Like if they've only done three bukkake videos with the entire defensive line of the Minnesota Vikings, they're still virgins because nobody scored a "touchdown."

Oh to know what was in that closet. More CIA "persuasion" videos? Blackwater snuff films? Hitler's brain?

Looks like someone forgot to use the fire-resistant carpet for Dick's visit.

The roof.

The roof.

The roof is on fire.

We don't need no water let the Bush/Cheney burn.

Burn Bush/Cheney.

Burn.

It is a wonderful old building, I hope there isn't much damage inside. I was fortunate enough to take a tour before the whole 9/11 security clampdown, and it's gorgeous in there.

Of course in this circumstance certain exceptional measures must be taken to protect the public safety, according to the new Order of the Reich President for the Protection of People and State.

Well I can tell you that from my vantage point the fire might be under control, but there are still plenty of fire trucks at 17th and Penn.

As for the cause . . . forget the electrical closet, my money is on an over-heated paper shredder.

You haven't visited the OEOB til you've played the PENIS!!! game during your tour. Post 9-11, no less.

(To those unacquainted, the PENIS!!! game is a competition of one-upsmanship...sortof like an escalating arms race, but instead relying on the escalation of volume as players say the word "penis." But props to anyone who's used the OEOB to play a more creative game that could also adopt the name.)

someone had too many paper shredders in use in their office...
