New Metro Fares Online

2007_1220_wmatamap.jpgVia Dr. Gridlock, it looks like WMATA has put all its new fares into their web site so that customers can figure out how much they'll have to pay come January 6.

This chart shows the basic layout of the new fares, fees and passes, and this link takes you to a page that lets you choose your Metro station, and then shows you a table of all the different fares you'll have to pay to go to any other given station. Make sure you look under the "regular fare" column to calculate peak fares.

It also looks like Trip Planner is now reflecting the new fares -- if you calculate a trip for after Jan. 6, it gives you the new fares. Jan. 6 is coming up fast, so take the time to figure out what your new fare will be now, especially if you're coming in to the city from the way far away suburbs.

$60 a month metroing to work and back went up to $66 a month for me.
Meh, I guess those settlement fee's from running over pedestrians had to kick in sometime. And the people skimming from Metro funds have to get newer, more expensive stuff too.

Wow. My fare went up from 130 to 156. Excuse me while I go hyperventilate somewhere.

Highway or shall I see red line robbery!

Mine went up $1 a day...not too bad.

$3.10 McPherson to West Falls Church
$.35 Transfer to Fairfax Connector 427 to Tysons Corner

$1.00 Fairfax Connector 427 to West Falls Church
$3.10 WFC to McPherson Square
----------
$7.55

Anybody see this?

Extend bus-to-bus transfer period from two to three hours

I LIKE!

I wouldn't have such a big problem with a $1.10 increase per day on Metro (for me) if the Orange line ran a bit more frequently than every 7-10 minutes AT RUSH HOUR (Metro Center to WFC). Never mind the sometimes 12-20 minutes between trains at the end of my day (7 pm, waiting endlessly at West Falls Church...)

To show how out of touch Metro is, you should leave work at 4 (I used to be a federal worker). Trains run every 3 minutes. When anyone who really works has to leave work, you wait and wait and wait and then board a crowded 4-6 car train.

I'd like to assume that someone at Metro crunches the numbers and determines that trains should run every 3 minutes at 4 PM but every 17 minutes at 7. But knowing how government and quasi-governmental monopolies work, I'd better not.

The price for unlimited Metro cards for MARC train riders is going up by $15. I guess they won't be hit as hard as many others, but that is still quite a jump, considering that it only cost $65 before this ridiculous unnecessary increase.

I would like to encourage everyone to boycott Metro as a result of these fare hikes. They can't run trains on time. They can't run trains with adequate space for all passengers. They can't even keep the bums and beggars out of their stations! (The last time I complained to a station manager about being accosted and pressed for spare change, he said that there was nothing he could do about it.)

Wow...I had to do the math twice...my daily one-way commute during rush hour...'scuse me "regular fare" time went up 20.5% Did anyone get a 20.5% raise last year? I know I sure didn't.

Let's just be happy Metro doesn't control the cost of things like bread, milk, and heat. We'd all be totally fracked.
