You're dead-on about the relative awesomeness of The Muppet Christmas Carol and A Muppet Family Christmas. A grungy VHS tape of ...Family Christmas dubbed from the TV broadcast is one of the things that keeps me going back to my parents' house for holidays.
And, sadly, the out-of-print DVD/VHS doesn't have all the songs since they couldn't get the rights.
Fortunately the original is on youtube! (I think that's the original, there are several different uploads of it)
