This past Friday night and with little fanfare, Alberto’s in Dupont Circle restarted its ovens and pizza-making operations, less than four months after a fire seriously damaged the P street location and left a pizza shaped hole in many pizza lovers' hearts. The same fire also forced the closure of the DJ Hut located above Alberto’s and the Subway next door, both of which remain closed.
According to Alberto’s staff, renovations to reopen the shop started just over a month ago. The staff attributes the quick turnaround to the store's previous experience with fire — the August blaze was the second to close the store in recent years.
Alberto’s has a bit further to go before returning to its previous glory. As I ate lunch there Monday the atmosphere was hectic despite the sparse lunch crowd. Movers brought in fresh cardboard delivery boxes while old metal pieces of what appeared to be the ventilation system were moved out, and the un-tiled floors still showed black remnants of the fire while the smell of fresh paint mixed with that of the dozen cooling pizzas in the back.
But who cares? The pizza crust remains crisp, the ingredients flavorful, and come 4:30 a.m. on a Friday night, whose door will you be walking through for the perfect slice? Alberto's is open until 5 a.m. Thursday through Saturday night and until midnight the rest of the week. A second Alberto’s is located on 18th street in Adams Morgan.

Alberto's serves decent pizza fast, and at a reasonable price. Other cities like NYC have these kinds of pizza places, where one can walk in & buy a slice and be out the door--but DC has but a few. Glad to see it has re-opened it's doors...

When's the one in Silver Spring going to open?
I know you're trying really hard to start a DC pizza flame war, but I'm not going to fall for it.
And since when is $20 for a 14" THIN crust pizza "a reasonable price?" I guess they're following the Coppi's model: throw some pine nuts and shittakes on and charge a sawbuck.
Yes, monkeyerotica...in a city with so many elitist dining establishments, Alberto's is way off base to charge $20 for a meal that easily feeds 2-4 people depending on crust type. My monocle's coming off to send a nude-eye squint right your way.
Alberto's isn't necessarily the most reasonably priced pizza, but their thin and Chicago stuffed crust varieties are both perfect textures (unlike the standard delivery crap that cooks halfway due to freezer burn, and comes topped with blatantly fake, process cheese). Alberto's offers quality toppings, too -- even by the slice (try the chicken/pesto "Roman," which I don't think you can beat for $4.50).
You might not get as much pepperoni to stuff into your face as from the jumbo slice outlets on the other side of 18th Street from the Adams Morgan Albertos. But do you know anyone who's actually braved eating a Pizza Mart jumbo slice while sober? Without the alcohol in your system to neutralize the pathogens, jumbo slice can result in dysentery-like symptoms. I've saw less puking after my 21st birthday than on a night with a jumbo slice and a glass of water. For the extra few bucks, an Alberto's fix may in a slightly thinner wallet, but will develop a gratefully chubbier diner. Think soul food, not fast food.
Hooray for Alberto's return! I can finally eat that last piece of stuffed pizza I've been saving in my freezer!

Aw, c'mon...Albertos isn't bad. $4.50 for a massive slice of quality pie that more than fills me up isn't a bad deal at all.
And I happen to like Coppi's too.
We ordered Alberto's delivered many a moon ago. I recall thinking, "If I'd wanted hot cheese and crackers, I'd just break out the Hickory Farms, torque up the toaster oven, and save myself $18 plus tip." Yet otherwise sane people we knew raved about this thin-crust, tiny topping stuff. Charging more for less seems to be the coin of the realm in this town. What they need is a crustless pie with a sauceless sauce (for the flavor-intolerant), topped with minimalist cheese to be eaten by toothless ghosts. More power to them if they can find an audience, but I'll stick with making my own or hitting Bistro Italian for their white pie.
And the choice isn't either $20 pies or Pizza Mart. That's like saying the choice is either fellatio or sticking it in a blender.
But it does blend!

what sound does a dead baby make in a blender?

At under $5 for a slice it's a good deal imo, but their delivery absolutely sucked. Used to take about an hour and it was always cold by the time you got it.
man EFF alberto's. i'm boycotting on the principle that these stoners have started fires not once, but TWICE, burning down the DC DJ establishment - DJ Hut...a true loss.
all this girl talk about thin/thick crust and 5/18dollar slices is silly.
i used to get a slice there every now and then out of convenience, but alberto's gets the gas face (big pun intended) for burning down the DJ Hut.
What's the best way to get a baby out of a blender?
Tostitos!
See, monkeyerotica? The flame war has been averted thanks to dead baby appeasement...those spoiled dead babies.

HOORAY
Is that a Jay sans Silent Bob by the fried out Subway?
And I'm sorry, did m.e. say fellatio and pizza? Do they deliver?!
Well, Dominos sucks and Papa Johns blows. Maybe you could work out a deal with them?
They do deliver...
I'll have to do that! All while watching On Demand and Having It My Way...
