The Pentagon Metrorail station was closed at 2:42 p.m. this afternoon to allow officials to investigate a report of a suspicious package at the station. Trains are not passing through the station. Instead, Blue and Yellow Line stations are turning back at the stations on each side of the Pentagon Metrorail station--at Pentagon City Metrorail station and Arlington Cemetery Metrorail station. Officials have requested shuttle buses at those stations to move customers around the incident. The first shuttle buses are not expected to be on scene until close to 3:30 p.m.We'll update with more info when it's available.
UPDATE 4:12 p.m.: The police situation at the Pentagon station has been resolved, but Metro is advising to expect residual delays on the Yellow and Blue lines.

...thank goodness I was given the option of working from home today...
Damn, I hope this doesn't take 17.8 hours for them to determine it's a forgotten backpack. Don't get me wrong, I don't want anyone getting hurt, but it would be nice if the authorities came up with a quicker way of determining they are the forgotten/lost bags they are.
How am I supposed to get home from work so that I can head out to Fed Ex? I'm in Springfield. Sad.
Bob and anyone else. If they don't fix this by rush hour, easiest way in is to take train/bus to Pentagon City and cab in, and vice versa. Cheapest way out of the city is to slug. goto: www.slug-lines.com look at the left side for route info.
according to WMATA pentagon city reopened at 4pm. delays are expected until 5pm. have fun.
Raytheon's suitcase nuke salesman made an uh-oh!
Is this the "Department of Bombland Security" idiot again?
I entered the Eastern Market metro when I heard about the closing over the intercom. Not wanting to get out, I rode to L'Enfant Plaza in hopes of getting to Reagan.
Metro had shuttle buses waiting at L'Enfant so I got on one. But then the driver says we're stopping at the Pentagon. Isn't that ridiculous? What if there were a real bomb? He is driving us to danger!
Another rider said something to that effect and she was right. When we arrived at the Pentagon, the Metro was reopened so I got back on the train.
Turns out, of course, the "bomb" was a false alarm and now someone has been charged. The press release made Metro look good but I don't think they have figured out how to handle these situations.
Anyway, later that evening, I got on the Metro again and of course there was another delay. I wish they'd put up alerts BEFORE you swipe your card!
