School Closure Community Meetings Announced

Last week, the Fenty administration announced an aggressive plan calling for the closure of 24 schools within the District of Columbia Public Schools system. Parents and concerned members of the community are now being invited to attend a series of public meetings where they can raise concerns directly with Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee and Deputy Mayor for Education Victor Reinoso. Wards 1, 2 & 6:
*Monday, Dec. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tubman Elementary School. 3101 13th St. NW
*Monday, Dec. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Francis Junior High School. 2425 N St. NW
*Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miner Elementary School. 601 15th St. NE

Wards 4 & 5:
*Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Noyes Elementary School. 2725 10th St. NE
*Tuesday, Dec. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Barnard Elementary School. 430 Decatur St. NW
*Thursday, Jan. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Emory Elementary School. 1720 1st St. NE

Wards 7 & 8:
*Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Patterson Elementary School. 4399 South Capitol Terr. SW

No schools are being proposed for closure in Ward 3, so no meeting has been scheduled in that Ward.
