Hej Hej, the DJ night dedicated to Scandinavian pop and rock, is getting festive for this start of the Christmas season with drink specials and holiday hits in addition to their regular fare. Pop into Café St.-Ex in your finest crown of candles, and you might even get a free drink. 10 p.m., FREE.
>> Le Loup are also celebrating tonight, in a homecoming of sorts for the local indie prog-rockers. These former Three Stars and Unbuckled alumni will be back in town tonight off their recent tour with Margot and the Nuclear So and Sos at the Black Cat. 8 p.m., $10.
>> A few more of our Three Stars alum, alt-rockers the Beanstalk Library (pictured) and the Timothy Bracken Complex (***), are playing tonight, and for a good cause. About A Girl, a benefit concert at Iota for the National Breast Cancer Coalition, will also feature the Art Daniels Band, The Blackjacks, Andrew Grimm, and Malonius. 8:30 p.m., $10 (suggested donation).
>> For the 7th night of the Festival of Lights, Hungry for Music is asking you to give to others and support their efforts to bring music and musical instruments to the needy via their "A Chanukah Feast" benefit concert with Alexandria Kleztet, Klezcentricity, Glickman & The Gelt-Tones, The Robyn Helzner Trio and The Sinai Mountain Boys. With special appearances by Alan Oresky, James Levy, Jinny Marsh, Laura Baron and Susan Jones. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door. This mostly klezmer event is at 8 p.m. at the Sixth & I Historical Synagogue.
Tuesday
>> Paul Curreri and Devon Sproule (pictured) have a lot in common. The Charlottesville-based folk singer/songwriters have both received critical acclaim for their lyrical, and inspired sounds. And they’re married. The talented couple will share the stage at Jammin' Java, touring off their latest 2007 releases, Sproule’s Keep Your Silver Shined and Curreri’s The Velvet Rut. 8 p.m., $10.
>> Raul Malo, the Hispanic country Roy Orbison, returns for his annual Christmas show at 7:30 at The Birchmere that will surely have his female devotees swooning. $35.
Wednesday
>> Ours stopped by the Rock and Roll Hotel back in February, and now front man Jimmy Gnecco is back for a solo gig. You can check out his impressive vocals and crooning moodiness tonight at Jammin' Java with Static and Shwa. 8 p.m., $15.
>> 1990s Boston-based ska band, Big D and the Kids Table, are hoping to the lead the next wave the genre’s resurgence. Their recently released fourth album, Strictly Rude, was produced by Might Mighty Bosstone’s bassist Joe Gittleman. They’ll be at the 9:30 Club as part of the Steady Riot Tour with Whole Wheat Bread and Brain Failure. $12.
Thursday
>> California-born, New York-based Richard Buckner is noted for his unique alternative approach to country. In 2005 he recorded the album Sir Dark Invader vs. The Fanglord with Jon Langford of British punk band, The Mekons. He’ll be at Iota tonight with Bitch. 9 p.m., $13.
Friday
>> Fans of The Postal Service will enjoy electro-pop rockers, Mobius Band. They’ve just released their second full length album, Heaven, and will be playing alongside DCist favorites Middle Distance Runner (***), The Epochs, and Ravens and Chimes. 9 p.m., $12.
>> We spoke with Olivia Mancini of the Washington Social Club back in 2006 when she performed with her side project, The Housemates, at our second Unbuckled event. This Friday the local indie-pop band will be playing the Black Cat with Junior League and the Apparitions’ Dylan-esque frontman Mark Charles Heidinger, aka Vandaveer. 9 p.m., $10.
>> South Africa's Lucky Dube, whose affecting roots reggae vocals resembled Peter Tosh, was sadly murdered recently by carjackers in his home country. Zanzibar will be hosting a "Tribute to Lucky Dube" with guitarist Chris Ntaka who used to play with Dube, along with Loide, Anna Mwalagho, S.T.O.R.M., and Jalani Horton of Bambu Station.
Saturday
>> BrightestYoungThings and SPIN magazine are sponsoring a holiday extravaganza of top local artists and their own collection of Christmas tunes. Washington Social Christmas, named after D.C.'s energetic pop sensation Washington Social Club (pictured), will also feature Laura Burhenn of Georgie James, The Dance Party (***), Jukebox the Ghost (***), Exit Clov, Le Loup (in case you missed them earlier this week), and Caverns. Get there early as there is no real headliner, and all bands will play throughout the show. Doors at 6:30 pm, $15.
>> Chick Hall's Surf Club hasn't changed hands quite yet, so there's time for another zydeco dance, this time featuring Louisiana's Dikki Du and Zydeco Krew at 9 p.m. at the Club, 4711 Kenilworth Ave., Hyattsville, Md.
>> WPFW 89.3 FM has for three decades mixed wonderful jazz, Caribbean, Latino, African, blues and more musical programming with politics and talk that has ranged from progressive to radical to wacko. Never the most organized or adept at promotion, this Pacifica radio outlet will celebrate their 30th Anniversary with dinner, speeches, music and awards at the DC Convention Center. Vocalist Gloria Lynne and singers Sweet Honey in the Rock will perform while jazz legend Sonny Rollins will be one of the Peace and Justice award recipients along with the likes of Harry Belafonte and Dick Gregory
>> Kill the Alarm, formerly Granian (who we became a fan of at his show last year), will be re-visiting Iota tonight an a early show with Keith Kane (a Georgetown University grad) of Vertical Horizon. 5 p.m.
Sunday
>> Arlington-based psychedelic rockers Go Home Robot were featured on CNN’s Gig Guide as “one of the best daily performances form coast to coast.” They claim to take their name from a campy sci-fi short involving a robot attack that you can view here. Then them out at the Red and the Black with Scarab. $8.

One thing that I notice that is inconsistent with the Weekly Music agenda is the lack of location for these shows. You mention a price but not where these shows will be. You really should do that.

All of them do have locations, but there is one that I did miss. The Mobius show on Friday is at the Rock and Roll Hotel.
